Recap / My Gym Partners A Monkey S 4 E 23 A Thanksgiving Carol

Go To

Adam is visited by three (technically four ghosts) on Thanksgiving's Eve, telling him why none of his animal friends share his hype about the holiday.

  • Bait-and-Switch: At first, it seems the reason animals hate Thanksgiving is because of how humans traditionally eat turkey on the holiday—which, in all honesty, would probably be the reason for it in most Thanksgiving Episodes. However, when Adam presents a tofurkey to his animal friends, they're absolutely disgusted by it—they explain to their human-BFF that they honestly don't have a problem with humans consuming turkey (and, presumably, any other meats on Thanksgiving). After a little prodding from Adam, Jake (speaking for himself and the others) explain that the real reason they (and animals in general) hate Thanksgiving is actually because of all the noisy parades that are held on the holiday.
  • End-of-Series Awareness: The billboard says, “The end is near”, a reference to the next episode being the finale.
  • First Kiss: When Ingrid takes Adam back to his early childhood, it's revealed that the baby versions of himself and Kerry (his closest friend outside of the main six and his closest human friend) share their first kiss, revealing that he and Kerry have already done this, way before the show even started]].
  • Fun with Acronyms: Adam goes to a tombstone-shaped turkey freezer, labeled "R.I.P. (Really Inexpensive Poultry)". The freezer fog only adds to the ghostly mood.
  • Hidden Depths: Adam is a huge football fan. Did you know that?
  • Invisible to Normals: The ghosts can only be seen by Adam, and during Ingrid's trip to the past, Adam was invisible to everyone around him, too.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: In the auditorium, Slips tells Adam that the show is about to begin. Adam responds, saying that in his book, the show already started 14 minutes ago. This quote happened approximately 14 minutes into the episode, give or take.
  • Motor Mouth: Jake plays The Ghost of Thanksgiving Yet to Come, meaning he has to be absolutely silent. He fails drastically, as he starts chattering the minute he meets Adam.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: A portion of the beginning of the episode is dedicated to a bunch of rhyming.
  • Shopping Montage: Adam and Jake have one while doing some last-minute grocery shopping for Adam's family.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: The only episode of the series to have a Thanksgiving-theme.
  • Trespassing to Talk: Once again, Adam's friends trespass on his property to meet him. This time, as ghosts—even Principal Pixiefrog gets in on the fun.
  • Yet Another Christmas Carol: A Thanksgiving-special that parodies A Christmas Carol, with the ghosts of Thanksgiving Past, Present, and Future coming to visit Adam in his sleep on the night before Thanksgiving.
