Air date: February 22, 2020 (CBC); May 28, 2020 (PBS)

"Picking Cloudberries": Molly, Trini and Nina set out to pick cloudberries to make a special pie for Molly's Mom.

"Picking Cloudberries" contains the following tropes:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Nina keeps getting distracted by a rare butterfly she wants to photograph for her brother.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: While cloud watching, Molly points out a cloud that she says looks like two dogs. Nina says it looks like two mittens. Trini suggests it's two dogs wearing mittens.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Trini packs a bunch of random items. They end up all being needed.
  • Cucumber Facial: After picking berries, the girls relax with cucumbers over their eyes.
  • Handwriting as Characterization: Grandpa Nat's handwriting is very swift, can be hard to read in some places, and is in cursive. His Native name was given because he's quick, he's a scientist and is thus highly intelligent, and he was educated during a time when cursive was considered the norm for handwriting. He's also aware of all of this and makes sure Molly can read his handwritten directions before she sets out on her hike.
  • "Kiss the Cook" Apron: Walter has one that's even been defictionalized
  • That Cloud Looks Like...: The girls watch clouds for a while, before deciding that one of them looks like oven mitts. Or like two dogs. Wearing mittens.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cloudberry pie is said to be Layla's favorite.

"Puzzled": Molly and Tooey find a strange box under the floorboards beneath Tooey's bed and discover it's an old Japanese puzzle box that is storing something valuable inside.

"Puzzled" contains the following tropes:

  • Call-Back: Montey Kribbitz, author of Travis Hightower's book in "Book of Mammoths," is listed on the register for Tooey's house.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The names listed in the register of the Ookami home are rather entertaining and punny.
  • Loose Floorboard Hiding Spot: Molly and Tooey find the puzzle box underneath a floorboard in Tooey's room.
  • Not So Above It All: The normally unflappable Kenji gets frustrated by the puzzle box, despite growing up with them in Japan.
  • Red Herring: The puzzle box and fishing float both lead Molly and Tooey to believe that the original owner is Japanese. She's not, but she is a fan of the culture.
