Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S2E37 Forever Friends

Go To

Shawna, Aisha's former best friend, goes up against Kimberly in a gymnastics competition. She's jealous of the current bond between the two Ranger teens and makes her dislike of Kim well known. When Shawna and Kim are captured by Goldar, will their mutual broken homes help unite the pair? Meanwhile, the Ranger guys' work in woodshop leads to Lord Zedd turning a saw into the Jaws of Destruction monster!

Tropes

  • Adaptational Wimp: The Jaws of Destruction compared to his Dairanger counterpart. At least in the Sentai, it was implied that the reason Archbishop Saw performed so poorly against Dairenoh was due to his advanced age. Here there is no such justification.
  • Continuity Nod: Kimberly brings up her parents' divorce, first mentioned in Season 1's "Return of an Old Friend".
  • Demoted to Extra: Archbishop Saw, while not being a central antagonist, at least was a major threat to the Dairangers through his subordinate, Choryo, someone even the main Gorma found too untrustworthy. Jaws of Destruction, on the other hand, is merely another monster that Zedd made from a woodshop saw and it doesn't do much besides insult the Rangers while Choryo was Adapted Out completely.
  • Epic Fail: The Jaws of Destruction drops his weapons after being struck by the Megazord only twice before it finishes him off. Not to mention, Bulk and Skull's jetpack tests.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Shawna isn't too fond of Kimberly at first, thinking her as a replacement as Aisha's best friend. She grows out of it after they bond over their parents' separations.
  • Informed Ability: Zedd's monster, the Jaws of Destruction, is stated by Zordon to be one of Zedd's most powerful creatures yet. However, all said monster does is trash talk and bark orders at the Z-Putties before Zedd grows him larger, after which, he fails to land a single blow before being unceremoniously destroyed.
  • Meaningful Background Event: Inverted. While Aisha and Shawna argue in the background about Aisha being too busy for Shawna, Kimberly faces forward with a guilty expression.
  • Replacement Goldfish: What Shawna thinks Kimberly is to her after Aisha's move from Stone Canyon. It doesn't last long thankfully.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Variation; Shawna has no reaction hearing Alpha calling Tommy by his name while morphed.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Zedd honestly thinks that the boys will turn on Aisha after losing Kimberly and Shawna to Goldar. They do the exact opposite and go to Zordon for aid, much to the villain's chagrin. After seeing how far Jason went to save his friends from having their powers drained by the candles before, along with all the other times the teens have been there for each other, Zedd really should've known better. Overlaps with Too Dumb to Live and Villain Decay.
