Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S2E36 The Great Bookala Escape

Go To

An intergalactic traveler from the planet called Bookala lands in Angel Grove Park. His tiny spaceship is powered by a special diamond, which, if Lord Zedd can steal it, can be used to power the always-drained Serpentera permanently! The Power Rangers get to the Bookala first and attempt to aid him in returning to his home planet. Can they help him get off Earth without Zedd noticing while dealing with both the Weldo and Evil Bookala monsters?

Tropes

  • Adaptational Heroism: Bookala's counterpart was a full-fledged villain in Dairanger as opposed to the evil knockoff here.
  • Aliens Speaking English: Downplayed; Bookala has to learn the language of another planet by repeating words given to it by its inhabitants. The version created by Zedd seems to mostly not have this problem.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Weldo had to be pretty pathetic to go down in one shot from a non-primary weapon.
  • Decomposite Character: Weldo and both Bookala were part of the singular Kabuki Novice in Dairanger. There, he possessed some machinery and became "Weldo", which was not very stable, thus resulting in the quick curb stomping that Billy inflicted on the latter.
  • Epic Fail:
    • Bulk and Skull's attempted photographing of the Bookala's spaceship.
    • Serpentera running out of power just as it was about to crush Tor.
  • Fakin' MacGuffin: The Power Rangers deceive Lord Zedd and Goldar into getting the fake Lightning Diamond while keeping the real diamond nice and safe so that the Bookala can return to his home planet.
  • Innocent Aliens: Bookala is; the duplicate Zedd creates, not so much.
  • One-Hit Kill: Billy kills Weldo with his Blade Blaster, something never done to any other non-Putty before or since!
