Recap / Miami Vice S 2 E 3 Whatever Works

Go To

Two South Beach policeman are killed outside of their jurisdiction by drug dealers. Their car is littered with Santeria paraphernalia. Castillo finds this very suspicious, especially after officers Tommy Solen and David Blakeney promise to wage war upon the drug dealers involved.

Castillo decides to consult with a priestess, Chata (Eartha Kitt), and finds out that the police are considered to be criminals by the perpetrators and the acts were one of righteous vengeance. Later, Castillo will consult with the drug dealers themselves who reveal that the officers kidnapped a local drug lord, named Victor Davilla,'s son and held him for ransom.

The attempt to bring in the dirty cops fails because the drug dealers are out for blood and Solen is killed alongside his wife. Blakeney goes on a rampage with his car and kills the people after him but is seriously injured in the process.

Meanwhile, Crockett has a comedy of errors with the attempt by the mayor's office to confiscate his Ferrari and resell it at auction. Izzy tries to help him get it back.

  • Blatant Lies: Izzy claims to be a Count and somehow Maxwell Dierks buys it.
  • Car Fu: Blakney drives his car into the drug dealers after him.
  • Cop Killer: Victor Davilla kills three cops in his quest for revenge against the kidnappers of his son.
  • Dirty Cop: The brief gang war is the result of a group of cops kidnapping the son of a local drug lord and holding him for ransom.
  • Godzilla Threshold: The drug dealers of Miami turn on Victor to get him arrested because his copkilling is bringing down too much heat.
  • Justified Criminal: To a certain extent, Victor Davilla is this as the three cops he killed were ones who kidnapped his son and beat his wife. He loses this sympathy when he murders one of the Dirty Cop's wives.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Crockett doesn't make his situation any better with Miami Dade Metro's accountant by sicing Elvis on him.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Maxwell Dierks goes out of his way to confiscate Crockett's car to put up for auction despite it being an essential part of his cover. He also gets it ruined with rain, a litter of kittens, and bird guano before trying to resell it to Izzy.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Victor Davilla goes after the police officers involved in his son's kidnapping.
  • Unwanted Assistance: Crockett has this reaction to Izzy's attempt to help him get his car back. Ironically, Izzy proves repeatedly to have a better grasp on the situation than Crockett.
