"You and I shouldn't be fighting each other!"
Quatre Raberba Winner, to Trowa Barton

Japanese Title: Five Gundams Confirmed

Original Airdate: April 21, 1995

US Airdate: March 8, 2000

Alliances are beginning to form among the pilots of Operation Meteor. Heero is in custody at a hospital, and Duo tries to spring him, though Heero has no intention of going quietly with anybody. Elsewhere, Trowa overwhelms OZ forces at Corsica, and gets some unexpected help from Quatre.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Quatre and the Manganac Corps are compelled to assist Trowa as he runs out of ammo.
  • Big Word Shout: Heero's latest suicide attempt is interrupted last-second by Relena shouting for him. In the English, she shouts his name. In the Japanese, she shouts his name, and then begs him to stop.
  • Driven to Suicide: Relena stops Heero's latest Death Seeker moment, but he pulls his parachute way too late and ends up sliding down a hill, injuring a leg.
Heero: Damn it! I shouldn't have opened my parachute!
Duo: Now I can understand you wanting to take your own life, but maybe, just maybe, you should think of another way of committing suicide, buddy?
  • Establishing Character Moment: Trowa's tactical mind is exercised, as he notes that his opponents technically used the right tactics, but fatally underestimated his firepower.
    • And later, we see him fire the weaponry of Gundam Heavyarms to depletion. It won't be the only time he does this.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Duo watches in disgust as Heero sets the leg he injured in his suicide attempt. Earlier in the episode, we see Heero with bloody hands after physically pulling them free from their bonds at the hospital.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: When Heavyarms is out of ammo, one of the Corsica Aries suits charges him. Naturally, he's the first fatality when the Manganac Corps arrives.
  • Nightmare Fuel: When Duo realizes Heero is trying to kill himself, he remarks he's going to have nightmares as a result.
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: Quatre's goggles flash like this when he kills the last enemy Aries mobile suit.
    Quatre: Sorry!
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Heero and Duo, as well as Trowa and Quatre. Heero and Duo are more Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, while Quatre flat-out says he and Trowa shouldn't be against each other. It's the beginning of the Gundam pilots joining forces, whereas the series started with Operation Meteor appearing to be five separate projects with a common goal.
