Recap / Lucifer (2016) S06E08 "Save the Devil, Save the World"

Go To

While Amenadiel is off to pacify Heaven, Lucifer discovers that Linda is writing a book about her sessions with him, and thinks that the answer to his insecurities with becoming God may lie in it. To prevent the potential end of the world, Lucifer urges Chloe, Maze, Dan, and Ella to discuss the book and find a passage that may help.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Burn Baby Burn: Since her book is no longer accurate now that Lucifer doesn't want to become God, Linda burns the draft.
  • Clip Show: Since the episode revolves around Linda's discussion of Lucifer's sessions, parts of it are partial recaps of certain previous episodes.
  • Fun T-Shirt: During a visualisation of Linda's book, Ella is shown wearing a shirt with "Happy T-Shirt" printed across the chest in lieu of her usual fun patterns.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Averted. Unlike most other people, Ella is completely fine with the revelation that her friends are celestials and/or demons. Her beef is how they have kept it from her for so long.
  • Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue": Linda tries to keep the end of the book secret as it descends into this, with Lucifer singing her praises as the greatest therapist ever.
  • Internal Reveal: Lucifer reveals to Ella that "Ray-Ray" is actually Azrael the Angel of Death.
  • Refusing Paradise: In the end, Lucifer rejects becoming God.
  • Shout-Out: The episode title comes from Heroes and its Arc Words "Save the cheerleader, save the world."
  • Unreliable Narrator:
    • Since Linda's writings are from Lucifer's point of view, many events are kind of biased. In the first reenactment, Ella is depicted as constantly happy-go-lucky, Dan freaks out over a disembodied head, and Chloe is praised by everyone and solves multiple murders just by sitting at her desk and thinking.
    • In the reenactments of Dan and Maze killing the prison warden through a Russian mob, Dan envisions himself as a gruff, badass guy while Maze is a weakling. Naturally, Maze envisions it as the opposite.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Lucifer's mortality comes back when he wills himself to become vulnerable around Rory. He then wills his wings to return.
