Recap / Learning How to Be a Princess Chapter 14 "Luz's Moving Hassel: Part 2"

Go To

Luz struggles with her friends' teenage drama, a strolling castle, and beasts roaming the hallways.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Badass: While in canon the Owl House was turned into a chicken-legged shack similar to Baba Yaga's home, and gets only mild notice on social media, here the Emperor's Castle becomes a massive tentacled monster that gets the attention of everyone on the island due to its size and its tentacles attacking any guard that goes near it. Even if there wasn't a beast problem, people inside the castle still must contend with the unsecured furniture threatening to crush them.
  • The Alternet: The Boiling Isle's equivalent of the internet is referred to as The Weave.
  • Artifact of Attraction: The Abomination Coven Relic briefly implanted intrusive thoughts into Amity's mind when she was looking at it, wanting her to use it to create an army of abominations.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Odalia becomes very suspicious of the human that Amity is hanging out with, especially when she broke it off with Boscha to perform a Moonlight Conjuring with her. When she has the opportunity to interrogate Luz, she finds the carriage she rode in and the way she dodges her questions suspicious, and decides to use a Touch Telepathy spell on her necklace in spite of Luz's warnings not to. When she finds out that she was antagonizing The Emperor's Daughter, she is understandably horrified.
  • Blood Knight: While Kikimora is usually calm and collected, she seems to have a love of violence evocative to demon nature that she takes the opportunity to indulge in when the Beast Coven bestiary escapes into the castle.
  • Foreshadowing: When their mask becomes loose, Crow fixes it back into place while joking that it's too early for a reveal, implying that they're a character the audience has already met. This, combined with a few other lines and actions, set up the reveal of said identity in the following chapter.
  • Glacier Waif: Kikimora can wield a warhammer several times her size.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: On the way back to their homes, Luz accidentally makes Amity pass out from embarrassment when they talk about fangs (asking how one can kiss someone with fangs) and pointing out when Amity's ears start wiggling.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: The plot combines the events of "Hooty's Moving Hassle" and "Understanding Willow", with Amity and Willow being able to have a heart-to-heart conversation during the chaos of the conjuring.
  • Sentient Phlebotinum: According to Luz and Belos, the various Coven Relics in his coven's possession are in some ways sentient.
  • So Proud of You: While at first enraged that he comes home to find his castle in ruins, Belos feels a sense of paternal pride when he learned that his daughter caused it by animating the castle. Doesn't stop him from punishing her, though.
  • Tempting Fate: When Amity remarks that she heard that Belos' throne curses anyone else who sits in it, Luz says it's fine. When Gus sits in it, a knife just barely misses Gus's head, Kikimora having thrown it as a warning.
