Recap / Kamen Rider Build Ep 27 The Counterattack Hero

Go To

Written By: Shogo Muto
Directed By: Ryuta Tasaki
Sento: A war's erupted between Touto, Hokuto and Seito over the immense energy within Pandora's Box. Touto, home of Sento Kiryu aka Kamen Rider Build, engages in a 3-on-3 proxy battle against Seito to end the conflict. Kamen Rider Grease, representing Touto, wins the first round. The second round begins...
Mido: This is Mido, Seito's Prime Minister. The second round will definitely be Seito's!
Sento: In that case, I'll just go hoppity-hop with this thing and finish the third battle with a ka-blam!
Mido: Say what? You're just making noises and not a lot of sense!
Sento: Well you can't put genius into words! Now, what'll happen in episode 27!?

With Kamen Rider Grease winning his match in the brawl against Seito, the score is now 1 to 0. Will Ryuga have a chance in his battle against Hell Bros or will Sento have to pick up the slack?

Episode Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: During the usual recap, Sento tells Midou he will go Hoppity-Hop and finish the third battle with a Kablam, much to Midou's confusion. Come Sento turning into RabbitRabbit, Midou says it's the hoppity hop ka-blam thing, despite only being told in the recap.
  • Break Them by Talking: Gentoku continues trying to get Sento to see that he is in the wrong and admit to being a monster, even having a flashback of Takumi saying that he would do whatever it takes to make progress for humanity, even if such progress came from war and would gladly do so if it meant selling his soul to the devil. All of this leads into the Armor-Piercing Question, “if Sento as Takumi was striving for peace, then what application could the Hazard Trigger possibly have in a peaceful world?”
    • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Sento's responds saying that who he was before doesn't matter, because the people he's met has turned him into a hero of justice who uses the Rider System to fight for peace. And as for the Hazard Trigger, he responds to that by unveiling the Full Full RabbitTank Bottle, which allows him to use the Hazard Trigger to fight for peace.
  • Characterization Marches On: Ryuga has continued growing in the series, mentioning in a flashback with Kazumi that he only fights for those that he believes in and that believe in him. Additionally, despite losing to Fu on a lie, he decidedly drops his frustration against the Washio brother and returns to the heroes’ corner claiming that Sento will just win from then on. Sento and Misora are proud that he is able to do this and aren’t upset at him for losing his battle.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: If Build kicking Rogue through a wall, and into the streets below with enough force to create a small crater, after a one-sided asskicking isn't a literal example, we don't know what is.
  • Flaw Exploitation: Fu Washio realizes while fighting Ryuga that while he was weaker than Hell Bros, he is able to raise his Hazard Level even in the middle of battle, to the point where despite starting out with an advantage, Ryuga was actually starting to turn the fight around...until Fu exploited Ryuga’s kindness by saying he had to fight and win or else Rai would die, causing the Rider to lose his conviction and the fight. After Fu wins, he insults Ryuga and is even surprised he would actually trust his enemy to be honest.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The episode ends with Rogue’s eyes glowing, seemingly confirming that RabbitRabbit’s countermeasure data has finished installing itself into Gentoku’s Sclash Driver and has activated. However unlike other instances, we don't need to be worried about it. They only got RabbitRabbit's data. They have no idea about TankTank.
  • It's Up to You: During Ryuga's match against Hell Bros, Sawa calls Kazumi on his phone and gets him to do something for her. Surprisingly enough, no one comments about his disappearance for most of the episode, with the best he gets being a Sneeze Cut after Misora wonders aloud if they forgot something.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: When Misora questions if there is a rule involving Gentoku being sent out of bounds after RabbitRabbit’s RabbitRabbit Finish Rider Kick, the judge overseeing the match says that the battle would continue until one side either is unable to continue, surrenders, or has their transformation deactivated, which means that Sento has to continue his fight out of bounds until Gentoku concedes through one of the mentioned ways.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Ready Go!! plays to accompany RabbitRabbit’s debut and Rogue’s subsequent ass getting kicked.
  • The Unfettered: When Gentoku comments that they have passed the point of no return in their progress, Takumi says that he will continue down the path he has started if it meant that humanity could continue moving forward, even if he would be a scientist who sold his soul to the devil, making him a combination of Type 4 and 5 of this trope.
