As Darius is taken prisoner by Kash and herded into the island's underground Medbay, the other kids and Dr. Turner try to find a way to rescue him - something easier said than done.

  • Alone with the Psycho: Darius finds himself alone with Kash for much of the episode, and has to appeal to his ego and pretend to agree with his plans to keep Kash from killing him.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Just as it seems the Smilodon is going to kill the kids, the Spinosaurus crashes into the canyon and eats the smaller predator... then goes after the kids itself.
  • Androcles' Lion: Darius pulls one of Pierce's spikes out of Big Eatie. The rex doesn't eat him on the spot, and even briefly lets Darius touch her face.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Darius at one point asks if all the huge rooms in the medbay are designed for individual dinosaurs. Kash snarks back that they're garages for enormous cars.
  • Beastly Bloodsports: Kash finally spells out that his boss's ultimate plan for the island is to host dinosaur fights for "serious high rollers".
  • The Beastmaster: Kash's personal long-term plan is to use a combination of brain chips and Dr. Turner's research to exercise complete control over the dinosaurs.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The last scene of the episode shows Brandon packing up to leave and find Darius.
  • The Bus Came Back: Having not been seen in years, the Spinosaurus returns in this episode followed by subsequent appearances throughout the season.
  • Pragmatic Evil: Kash calls off the fight between Big Eatie and Pierce after Darius points out how expensive and valuable even one dinosaur is, and losing one for every cage match is extremely wasteful.
  • Savage Spinosaurs: The kids run into a ferocious Spinosaurus in the desert.
  • Scylla and Charybdis: The kids hide from the Spinosaurus in a narrow canyon, only to find the Smilodon is lurking within. Outside the canyon, the Spinosaurus is huge, powerful, and completely unstoppable, but too big to pursue them into the narrow canyon. Within the canyon, the Smilodon is smaller, but much more maneuverable and able to traverse the canyon easily.
