Julie has decided to take up the music program, but her teacher says that she is too late. Meanwhile, Luke, Alex, and Reggie are reminiscing about their past life, lamenting how much has changed since their deaths. Upon hearing Julie's problem, Luke encourages her to do a surprise performance in front of her teacher, as a way to lobby her way into the music program.


Tropes

  • Family of Choice: Luke, Reggie and Alex confirm they were one even before their deaths and they're doubly so in the afterlife.
    Alex: "Ok, none of us had it great. But at least we had something. You know, what do we have now?"
    Luke: "I'll tell you what we have. It's what we've have since the day we came together - we have us. We're the only family we're ever going to need."
  • Gayngst: Alex is revealed to be gay, something that his family were unhappy about.
  • Girl Group: Carrie is the leader of a girl group called the Dirty Candy, whose songs seem to be about how awesome they are.
  • I Choose to Stay: A variation. Julie tells her dad that she has decided not to let the painful memories about her mom prevent her from continue living in their house, and wants the family to stay.
  • Magic Music: For some reason, Luke, Alex, and Reggie are momentarily visible to everyone when they are playing music with Julie. However, they disappear soon afterwards, giving the impression that they are just holograms. They are also able to be heard, but not seen, by the beachgoers during their jam session.
  • Male Band, Female Singer: The Sunset Curve boys include Julie into their band as their frontman.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Luke, Alex, and Reggie learn that they can interact with things connected to them or Julie. They can also summon their property on command, like Reggie's guitar. At the end of the episode, they find out that they can become visible to everyone if they are playing music with Julie.
  • Parental Issues: It's revealed all three members of Sunset Curve were distant from their parents - Luke's disapproved of his music, Reggie's were on the brink of divorce, and Alex's never accepted him for being gay.
  • Shirtless Scene: Luke has one while changing his clothes. He is very well-built.
  • You Are Too Late: Mrs. Harrison says so when Julie asks to be let into the music program, saying that she has done everything she can to include her, and it's too late to change her mind.
