Recap / Jessica Jones (2015) S2E6 "AKA Facetime"

Go To

While Hogarth keeps questioning Inez about IGH, Trish's addiction keeps getting worse. Meanwhile, Jessica discovers a surprising and horrible truth.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Addled Addict: Trish's addiction is becoming gradually worse, to the point where she collapses without the inhaler.
  • Blood Knight: Under the effects of the inhaler, Trish starts itching for the opportunity to hit somebody, kicking a supposed groper out of a bus.
  • Brutal Honesty: When Inez asks Jeri how she looks in her new clothes, the latter responds "Like a waste of my time."
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Turns out Malus and "Leslie" are in a relationship.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The audience gets a tiny clue to the killer's identity about 60 seconds before it's revealed to Jessica; she notices that the alcohol in the house is the Spanish liquor she told Oscar her parents used to keep at home.
  • Healing Hands: Inez mentions that one of the subjects of IGH had this ability, though it took a toll on his own health.
  • Moral Myopia: Jessica scoffs when Hogarth, of all people, calls Inez 'manipulative'.
  • Oblivious to Love: Without Jessica telling her so, Trish wouldn't have noticed Malcolm's obvious crush on her.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: A minor example; Jessica and Trish have to convince a jewelry store owner to show them security footage they need and have to assure him no police will come to his store...because he's an illegal immigrant and he's afraid that if the cops come, ICE will have him deported, which has left him unable to report the many times his store has been robbed.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Trish tries to use her fame to get past the maitre d' at the golf club, and is rebuffed. So she instead goes on a tirade at the guy to distract them while Jessica breaks in.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Jessica visits Oscar and admits to him that she doesn't want to feel alone anymore. The two then proceed to have sex.
  • Spotting the Thread: Jessica enters Karl's house. She finds a tablet open to an app containing sheet music for the song "Ain't We Got Fun", which is a song that clearly sounds familiar to her. Then she notices a bottle of Spanish liquor of the kind that her parents kept in the liquor cabinet at home. Then she goes down into the basement, finds a room with a bed equipped with shackles, a bottle of very familiar perfume on the vanity, and on the nightstand, she finds a photograph of her and Philip at Playland. And then she realizes, she's hunting her own mother, and that's when Alisa is led in by Dr. Malus.
    Jessica Jones: I don't understand...
  • Title Drop: Done visually when Jessica uses the Facetime app on Eric's iPhone to intimidate his father.
  • The Unfettered: Jessica takes Ambrose's son Eric hostage in order to get him to reveal where to find Dr. Malus. Afterwards, she seems surprised herself about how far she is willing to go.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Trish throws up as a result of withdrawal from having been off Simpson's inhaler for too long.
  • Wham Episode: At the end of the episode, Jessica discovers that the killer is actually her very own and alive mother.
