Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 17 Armor Of The Gods

Go To

The Dark Hand travels to Spain to open Dai Gui's portal.

  • Culture Blind: Ratso recalls that Pamplona has a famous cultural feature, but can't remember what. Hak Foo suggests paella, which Ratso mistakes for "pinata," prompting Valmont to correct him: "This is Spain, not Mexico." In a subversion, Ratso does manage to remember Pamplona's cultural significance—the Running of the Bulls; unfortunately, he remembers it as said bulls are beginning their charge.
  • Didn't Think This Through: A frustrated Jade puts Uncle into an enchanted sleep to stop his constant complaining. Unfortunately, she does this before the Chan Clan confirms which of the Demon Sorcerers they're fighting...and didn't bother to research how to wake Uncle up so he can tell them how to prepare the banishment chi spell.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: As the Earth Demon, Dai Gui digs through the terrain.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Tohru mentioning how Uncle should be Counting Sheep gives Jade the idea to use the Sheep Talisman's astral powers to enter Uncle's dreams for help.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Ratso spends the first half of the episode trying to remember exactly what Pamplona is famous for. He finally recalls as he starts hearing a distant rumble...
Ratso: That's what Pamplona's famous for!
(Cut to a herd of angry bulls charging through the streets)
  • Forced Sleep: Jade does this to Uncle by disguising a sleeping chi spell as tea. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to wake him up.
  • Fun with Homophones: When Jade uses the sheep talisman to enter Uncle's dream and ask for the spell ingredients needed to seal Dai Gui, Uncle says "hair of you". Jade believes her hair is an ingredient so she later plucks a strand but it doesn't work. When Uncle awakes, he meant "ewe", a female sheep, so a strand of wool from his vest works instead.
  • Head Desk: Jade does this when Uncle keeps yelling at her for having the television too loud for him.
  • Jerkass Ball: Uncle is much crankier than usual due to his fear of the demon sorcerers and not getting enough sleep to the point he deprives Jade and Tohru of sleep as well.
  • Never My Fault: Uncle chews out Jackie for dropping the armor and Jackie points out that Uncle made him drop it by yelling when he came home. Uncle merely sees it as Jackie "dishonoring" him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Jade is deeply disturbed by the cheerful, smiling, joking Uncle that she encounters in the dream world. Dream!Uncle is also too relaxed to focus on providing the ingredients needed to cast Dai Gui's banishing spell, so Jade and Tohru have to do the research themselves.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: Jade quickly grows to dislike the cheerful Uncle she meets in the dream world since he's no longer taking anything seriously. When Uncle wakes up just as cranky as he was before, Jade admits that she prefers Uncle to be like that over the happy-go-lucky Uncle she met in the dream.
