Recap / I Carly S 05 Ep 04 I Halfoween

Go To

iHalfoween is the 4th episode in the 5th season of iCarly.

Inspired by townsfolk attending a costume convention, Carly, Sam and Freddie decide to hold their own "Halfoween" party in honor. However, an old enemy tries to ruin their fun, and the gang must save the party.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Sam, while shocked upon suddenly having a deeper tone of voice, decides to have some fun with it. She does a couple of impersonations of black men, and she uses her voice to scare a young boy into thinking that she wants to eat him.
  • All Just a Dream: When Gibby wakes up in Carly's bed, and is confronted by her when she has her voice briefly changed to be deeper, he thinks this trope is in play. When Carly gets upset at him for getting wing dip on her pillow, he tries to assure her that it's not because this is just a dream.
  • Batman Gambit: Nevel's plan was contingent on the gang overreacting to a harmless prank.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Even if it had been Nevel in the costume, all he did was make their voices sound weird for a short period of time, but they drop Nevel (or so they think) from the ceiling 20 times.
    • Downplayed however, as the gang was worried the effects might’ve been permanent, plus Nevel trapped Freddie in Nevel’s robot costume and tricked the iCarly gang into roughly slamming Freddie 20 times. When Nevel reveals they were slamming Freddie, he gets his comeuppance.
  • Halloween Episode: The second after Season 1's "iScream on Halloween".
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After Nevel tricks the iCarly into essentially pummeling their own friend, he receives his well-deserved comeuppance by getting tangled and slammed the same way.
  • Misplaced Retribution: When Nevel is humiliated once again, he blames iCarly and pranks them with an excuse that they weren't there to help him look better like last time. Also counts as Disproportionate Retribution.
  • Never My Fault: Nevel blames that man in a wheelchair for humiliating him again, even though he was the one who was yelling and insulting the man in full view of recording bystanders in response to a minor transgression.
  • Oh, Crap!: While at the Groovy Smoothie, the trio are confused about one man's costume. When they ask who he's supposed to be, he replies that he's John Wilkes Booth. A man dressed as Abraham Lincoln whips his head around in shock saying "Oh no!" and high-tails it out of there, with Booth behind him.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Nevel's candies causes the voices of Carly, Sam and Freddie to become deeper and unattractive.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: When Freddie is stuffed into the purple robot suit and is framed as being the one who played a mean trick on the trio, he is punished by being dumped into a basket full of toys 20 times. When his helmet is taken off and is revealed to have not been Nevel, he claims that this is the worst party ever.
  • "You!" Exclamation: When Freddie is looking for the purple robot and spots him, he says this trope twice. In a hilarious take on this trope, his deep voice makes him sound like a very muscular thug who found his target.
