Ted plans to move in with Robin, but Barney goes out of his way to prevent the move, even going so far as to steal Ted's moving truck filled with most of his possessions.
This episode provides examples of:
- …But He Sounds Handsome: "This isn't Barney, but I hear that guy's awesome." Ted later gives him an Ironic Echo when he takes back the truck with Barney and his date inside.
- Didn't Think This Through:
- Since Barney was pretending to be an anonymous caller, Ted asks him how will he know who to look for at the bar. He looks like Barney.
- Barney makes fun of Ted for wearing sneakers with a suit. Ted responds by pointing out that Barney stole his suit-appropriate shoes. Barney concedes the point.
- Lily and Marshall don't realize until after Ted moved out that he owned all of the useful stuff in the apartment, including the microwave, the groceries and the towels, and they haven't learned to take care of themselves without Ted living with them.
- Dumb Blonde:
- Ted and Barney bet with a girl if Lou Ferrigno would be able to pull out a truck. She never realizes that the show is a rerun because the TV is old.
- The Rockette Barney tries to nail in the moving truck.
- Home Nudist: One of the things Marshall and Lily decide to try now that Ted has moved out is sit in the living room while naked. The novelty wears off after a few minutes when they realise the couch is itchy and the room is too cold.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Even though Barney was being immature about Ted moving in with Robin, he was still right about them not being ready, because Ted kept referring to it as "Robin's place".
- The Reliable One: Lily and Marshall soon realize that Ted was the one in charge of buying the groceries, and he owned every useful item in the apartment, including the towels. They soon realize that they never learned to live on their own without Ted.
- Scenery Censor: Marshall and Lily trying the things they couldn't do when they had to share the apartment with Ted. They discover that they don't work at all.
