Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E33 "Micromanager"

Go To

Kevin managed to get hired at a new burger joint called Short Burger. He meets a colleague called Anthony there, as they compete against each other for Employee of the Month while operating for their mysterious boss. Meanwhile, Gretel decides she and Hamster should work out more to get in shape for the next villain attack, but end up overworking and all sore.

Tropes:

  • Achilles' Heel: With Hamster and Gretel too tired to fight the robot, Kevin realizes that, since teenagers helped build the robot, most of the parts are shoddily built. Specifically, he and Anthony did the feet, and ended up gluing some of the parts with gum. All Gretel had to do was pull those pieces apart, and the whole robot comes down.
  • Burger Fool: Kevin gets a job at Short Burger, where he and Anthony compete on who will be employee of the month. They’re also tricked into helping build a Humongous Mecha for the manager to attack his competitor Tall Burger.
  • Hard Work Fallacy: Hamster and Gretel decide to train hard to be ready whenever evil strikes. Unfortunately, they train too hard, and are so exhausted they can't even fly, just floating in place while letting the wind take them wherever. This means that they have trouble fighting the giant robot attacking Tall Burger.
  • No Animals Allowed: During Kevin's job interview, the interviewer asks Kevin if he's human, and Kevin is hired on the spot. Two dogs in a Totem Pole Trench walk away upset and declare they'll pee in the hallway.
  • Rice Burner: The reason Kevin applied for a job is so he can earn money to add a racing stripe to the minivan. Similarly, Anthony wants to earn money so he can add a spoiler to his motorcycle.
  • Shout-Out: During the Training Montage, the part where Gretel and Hamster are lifting trains is similar to the scene where Mr. Incredible was lifting trains to lose weight and get muscular again.
  • Shrink Ray: Kevin and Anthony's boss used to work for Tall Burger, where he invented a shrink ray to shrink onions, but he accidentally shrunk himself instead.
  • Training Montage: Hamster and Gretel go through an intense workout routine, which includes lifting trains and buildings, and tossing satellites back and forth.
  • Unwitting Pawn: All the teenagers who worked at Short Burger, Kevin and Anthony included, were tricked into building parts for the manager's robot, under the pretense of building a new fryer.
