Tropes present in this episode

  • Brits Love Tea: Andre is surprised to find edibles at Shetty's house, expecting this trope to apply. Cate confirms Shetty has plenty of teas.
  • Coitus Interruptus: Looking for Sam, Emma goes to Maverick's room for help. He's with Sloane and sends Emma away rather cranking.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As much as she may hate the supes and wants Homelander and others taken out, Mallory draws the line at Shetty's plans for wholesale genocide of anyone with Compound V inside of them.
  • Excrement Statement: An intoxicated Dr. Cardosa enters Dean Shetty's office and goes off on a rant about the virus. Then he proceeds to urinate in her liquor. All of this happens while Jordan and Marie are hiding under a desk.
  • Have You Told Anyone Else?: Neuman confirms with Dr. Cardosa that he is the only one capable of replicating the virus, about 30 seconds before she kills him.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Marie learns that Neuman is a Supe and they have the same power.
    • Marie, Jordan, Emma, Cate, and Sam learn from Shetty that Homelander is responsible for Flight 37.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Neuman compares her experience at the Red River Institute with Marie's, even asking if Marie was served fish sticks with pink sauce as a treat, just like she was.
  • Psychic-Assisted Suicide: Cate uses her powers to make Shetty slash her throat and prevents Marie from saving her.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Emma does this when she returns to find Sam has gone to the town hall debate.
  • The Reveal: Many shocking reveals are brought up this episode:
    • Dean Shetty's family is revealed to be among the victims of Flight 37note  and she has been creating the virus as revenge on Supe kind for the damage they bring.
    • Victoria Neuman reveals to Marie that their powers are technically the same, they merely mastered different aspects of it. Marie has previously shown she's also capable of popping body parts, and in this episode Neuman displays her skills in straightforward bloodbending.
    • Cate pushes Shetty to suicide, but with the previous scene between them it seems this was part of Shetty's plan as well.
    • The episode ends on Victoria confiscating the virus from Dr. Cardosa and then subsequently killing him, driving away with the only sample of the supe virus.
  • We Need a Distraction: To distract the guards and allow Marie to talk to Neuman, Jordan punches Justine and breaks her jaw (lucky for her, her Healing Factor kicks in). This turns into a free-for-all and the guards step away from the door, which lets Marie slip in.
  • You Are Not Alone: Victoria Neuman cozies up to Marie by revealing she's a fellow blood bender.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Neuman meets Dr. Cardosa in a parking garage. He hands over the supe-killing virus. She confirms he is the only one who knows about it, promises him that he and his family will be safe—and then she explodes his head.
