Vought rushes to cover up last episode's tragic events by making it look like Luke/Golden Boy was a chronic drug user who had a psychotic break. Their narrative makes Andre and Marie the ones who took control of the situation and deliberately leaves out Jordan's role. Andre and Cate try to find out more about why Luke would kill himself. Marie finds herself in the limelight.

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Jordan is right to be annoyed that Marie and Andre were given and are taking the credit for going against Luke when it was mostly them who fought him, Marie also isn't wrong to point out that Jordan has been acting dismissive of how their actions might destroy Marie's career in the past episode and that it's kind of rich of them to try and pull a moral highground now.
  • Dead Man Writing: Before confronting Brink to demand that his brother be returned, Luke recorded a video confession on his phone and hid it inside Polarity's statue, with the intention of ensuring that if things didn't end well, at least Cate and Andre could pick up where he left off.
Luke: Okay. If you're watching this, I guess things got fսckеd. Okay, I know this sounds crazy, but they have my brother. He's not dead. He's underneath the school. They call it the Woods. It's, like, this fucked-up hospital or something. They did messed-up things to him and to me. And Brink... Brink is a part of this. I'm gonna go in there right now. I'm gonna make him give me my brother back. If you're seeing this, I guess things got pretty fսckеd. I'm sorry. Help Sam if you can, please. I love you, Andre. Tell Cate I love her, too.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Concerned about Marie's state, Emma has plenty of alcohol and weed for them to drown their troubles. Emma volunteers to get harder stuff upon request.
  • Dying Clue: Before blowing himself up, Luke said to Andre, "Your dad has it." It turns out he was referring to having hidden a phone inside the statue of Polarity with a video confession regarding what's happened to his brother.
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: A year ago, Adam Bourke was riding the high of having directed Dawn of the Seven. After flashing Minka Kelly, he's now in "director's jail" and the only work he can find is teaching "Acting for Auditions" at Godolkin. He even mutters at one point, "How the fuck did I get here?"
  • Mind Rape:
    • Cate finds Rufus, one of her fellow students, making crass jokes about Luke's death that happen to involve her (namely, insinuating that Luke killed himself to get away from her). Cate's response?
      Cate: Do you like baseball?
      Rufus: Baseball? Yeah.
Cate: You're gonna take a little jog over to Dick's Sporting Goods. Buy yourself a nice Louisville Slugger. Bring it right back to the quad and swing that bat as hard as you can into your nuts. Every hour, on the hour. And every time you swing, yell, "Jumanji!" Sound good?
    • When Andre is caught by security guards, Cate rescues him by compelling the male guard to perform oral sex on his female partner's flashlight.
  • Slashed Throat: After retrieving Brink's computer from his office, the Vought security guards slit the throat of a janitor who comes upon them heading through a secret door that leads to the Woods.
  • Spotting the Thread: As Andre and Cate are walking through the quad at night, they notice a security camera that's been melted. Andre then notices that the camera in question has a direct line of sight to his father's statue nearby, and realizes that Luke's last words to him of "Your dad has it" was him telling Andre where he'd stashed a phone with his death confession.
  • Social Media Is Bad: While practicing a scene, Emma reveals to Justine that she needs to purge in order to shrink. Later, Emma is dismayed to find out that Justine has revealed this on her YouTube channel and everybody on campus thinks she has an eating disorder. Justine later claims to doing it because she thought it would be helpful to other girls.
  • Sonic Stunner: The security personnel have handheld devices that emit a high frequency sound that disorients Supes, on account of their higher range of hearing. Bob, the guard who catches Andre in the stairwell, uses this to incapacitate him after Andre disarms him of his gun.
  • Visual Innuendo: Andre realizes what Luke meant with his final words ("Your dad has it.") He goes to Polarity's statue and he uses his powers to retrieve the cell phone hidden within. This leaves a gaping hole in the statue's crotch. Cafe's reaction while watching Andre mutilate his dad in effigy:
    Cate: That is really Freudian.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jordan calls out Marie for taking the credit of stopping Luke's rampage together with Andre, when in reality it was mostly Jordan who reigned Luke in to protect Marie. Marie then turns it around on them by pointing out that not only did Jordan reject her from God U but that Marie was left resolving the group's mess at the party last episode when everyone else ran.
