Recap / Full House S 8 E 13 The Producer

Go To

"The Producer" is an episode in the eighth season of Full House.

Rebecca gets promoted into the position of executive producer for "Wake Up, San Francisco" while Michelle is present, which dampens Danny's spirit, culminating in him quitting abruptly after Rebecca rejects a proposal for the upcoming episode of "Wake Up, San Francisco". Meanwhile Jesse is struggling to keep Nicky and Alex's behaviors in check, Joey is in a funk because his favorite snack is no longer in production, and D.J. and Stephanie, after arguing about which of them has a greater craving for sweets, go cold-turkey on sweets for a bet.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Annoying Laugh: Rebecca's temporary replacement co-host on "Wake Up, San Francisco" is criticized for his grating laughing voice by Jesse, Danny, and the waiter who serves the Tanner family at the restaurant.
  • The Bet: After arguing between themselves about who has less self-control on sweets, D.J. and Stephanie make a bet on who can go without having any desserts longer. They end up settling for a draw after watching Michelle order a slice of chocolate cake for dessert late in the episode.
  • Facepalm: Danny reacts this way to the server noting his absence on "Wake Up, San Francisco" while still feeling bummed out at being replaced from the show.
Server: [to Rebecca] You're in "Wake Up, San Francisco"... [to Danny] and you're not.
  • Haven't You Seen X Before?: Jesse makes one such remark at the fellow diner staring at him right as he takes Nicky and Alex by the back of their clothes away for acting up.
  • Neck Lift: Non-injurious version. Jesse's solution to Nicky and Alex acting up at the restaurant is by taking them to the lobby and wait them out, hoisting them up by the back of the clothing as he does so, with one in each hand (it helps that the boys acting up are lying on the floor at the time, making it easier for Jesse to pick them up, and that Jesse is much larger than the twins are).
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for Laughs. When the whole Tanner family dine at a restaurant late in the episode, Jesse takes Nicky and Alex to the lobby for acting up. After they return to their dining table, Rebecca, upon seeing the boys in their well-behaved moment, asks: "Jess, where are our children?"
  • Replacement Scrappy: In-Universe, Phil is universally disliked as the host. Becky justifies this due to having only one day to find a new co-host after Danny quits.
  • Rule of Three: The waiter who serves the Tanner family inside the restaurant rolls his eyes for the total of three times as a gag.
    • His first time takes place upon witnessing Nicky and Alex acting up because they want dessert before their main dinner course was done.note
    • The second time he does so is due to Joey leaping across the dinner table for cookie crumbs after the information that the cookies for the pie D.J. and Stephanie had just devoured were the last of the Vanilla Weasels ever available is revealed.
    • Finally, he recognizes Rebecca from "Wake Up, San Francisco" and notices Danny is absent (much to Danny's dismay) before criticizing her temporary replacement co-host, specifically his Annoying Laugh, rolling his eyes as he does so.
  • Take This Job and Shove It: Danny quits after Rebecca, now the new producer of "Wake Up, San Francisco", turns down on a proposal Danny makes for the show, necessitating Rebecca finding a temporary replacement co-host.note
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Danny quits Wake Up San Francisco and wishes Rebecca luck trying to replace him. "I am Mr. Wake Up San Francisco!" Gilligan Cut to Phil the weatherman filling Danny's spot on the show.
    • A positive example. After D.J. and Stephanie completely devour the last slice of pie and the waiter informs them that the pie in question had the final stock of Vanilla Weasels, Joey's depressive mood worsens and he claims that he'll never find any desserts that he will like at least as much, only to perk up at the sight of another waiter taking a flan for someone else and immediately order one for himself.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: Played for Laughs. While Jesse has Nicky and Alex in the lobby of the restaurant for acting up, he tells them that he'd wait for them to stop misbehaving before they all get to go back inside. He leans on what he thought was a wall with his arm, only to discover that it's a female-looking statue and his hand is touching the breast, at which point he takes his hand away hurriedly.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: For Joey, it's Vanilla Weasels, "the most delectable cookies ever made". He's in a depressive funk after Jesse informs him that the brand is no longer in productionnote .
