Rachel, Ross, Joey and to a lesser extent Phoebe unravel the misunderstanding over Joey's "proposal" to Rachel. Monica's father gives her and Chandler unwanted advice regarding their attempts to conceive.

- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Jack Geller is eager to give rather inappropriate advice to Monica and Chandler to increase their chances of conceiving. Both Monica and Chandler cringe at him.
- Armor-Piercing Question: Rachel justifies accepting Joey's supposed proposal by talking about how great he is and how much he cares about her. Monica asks if she loves Joey, which causes Rachel to trail off.
- Brick Joke: Ross says he saw Joey eat a plastic piece of fruit. Later when trying to account for all this proposal inanity, Joey says he thinks he ate some bad fruit.
- Dirty Old Man: Jack tries to get Ross and Joey to join him in peeking into the closet where people are having sex. Ross is, understandably, skeeved out by this.Ross: Y'know what? I don't like you without Mom.
- Funny Conception Story: When Jack catches Monica and Chandler trying for a baby, he offers to "help" by sharing that he got his bad hip from his and Judy's efforts to conceive Monica.Chandler: Funny, this story is how I got the bullet hole in my head.
- Heroic BSoD: Jack after walking on Monica and Chandler having sex. He only comes out of it after learning this is about them starting a family.
- Hope Spot: Just as Ross is mollified and sharing a moment with Rachel, he recalls that she was wearing the ring and thus accepted the supposed proposal.
- I Want Grandkids: Well, more grandkids in this case, as Jack is all-too eager to give Monica and Chandler advice on how to conceive a child.
- Lampshade Hanging: Jack momentarily forgets that Ben exists, acknowledging how the kid got progressively Out of Focus over the last few seasons. Ross having a son is barely mentioned at all in following episodes.
- Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Monica and Chandler are STILL up for having sex in the hospital, because doing it again doubles the chances of conception according to Monica.
- Parents Walk In at the Worst Time: Jack Geller walks in on Monica and Chandler having sex in a storecupboard in a hospital.Monica: I still can't believe that my dad saw us having sex! He didn't make it to one of my piano recitals, but this he sees!
- What Have We Ear?: Chandler mentions that Jack Geller did the "pull a coin from the ear" trick to him when he arrived at the hospital.
