Frasier's show has been losing the ratings to a hot new program, Dr. Zach, which has a heavy advertising budget. KACL refuses to match their exposure, so Frasier calls on Bebe to turn the screws, only to turn to an amateur agent under her employment named Portia. Meanwhile, Martin goes above and beyond to make Niles write him a prescription pad for pills.
Tropes:
- Determinator: Portia is so determined to prove herself as an agent that she follows Frasier and Kenny to a spa, barges into the men's locker room, and steals Kenny's pants so he has to listen to her plans for syndication. She then accidentally takes the pants with her after getting Kenny to agree.
- Double Entendre: When Kenny first notes that Dr. Zach has gotten a ton of exposure, Roz mentions how their episode on exposure was one of their most popular.
- Gone Swimming, Clothes Stolen: Portia steals Kenny's pants at a day spa to get him to meet with her, and forgets to return them. And in The Tag, Frasier notices that Dr. Zach is also at the spa, and steals his pants.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: Portia initially claims that she'll be as dedicated to fulfilling Frasier's career needs as she's been at giving him the perfect cups of coffee as Bebe's secretary. Frasier then states that she's never gotten his coffee right, and has clearly forgotten every time he complained afterwards.
- Laborious Laziness: The only reason Martin concocts a scheme in order to get a prescription from Niles is because his regular doctor wants him take a physical exam before refilling it.
- Out-Gambitted: When Martin arranges Niles getting pulled over to coerce him to write a prescription for his pills, Niles manages to get one over him by drawing a dog on it in order to trick Martin to end his ruse.
- Parental Sexuality Squick: Daphne points out to Niles and Martin that the easiest way for Niles to prescribe medicine to his dad without violating his medical ethics is to just perform an examination on Martin himself. Both Niles and Martin immediately decide it'd be better to drive him to his regular doctor than to see Martin naked.
- Pulling the Thread: At one point, Portia comes to KACL to meet with Frasier, but he's hiding under his desk and Roz claims she's just hearing a pre-recording on air. So Portia decides to just leave a note on his windshield, but realizes while doing so that if Frasier's car is there, then he must be there too.
- Remember the New Guy?: In her first scene Frasier and Bebe both talk about Portia as if she's been Bebe's assistant for years, but this is the first time we've seen her.
- Sophisticated as Hell: After learning that Bebe is also Dr. Zach's agent, Frasier gives her a formal speech of his resignation from her services, and ends with a Punctuated! For! Emphasis! "Screw! You!"
- Special Guest: Kristin Chenoweth as Portia.
- Two-Timer Date: Dr. Zach accidentally walks into Bebe's office for a meeting while she's already in one with Frasier, outraging the latter.
