While preparing for the launch of SHINO's Tokyo, Shinomiya discovers that his new intern is none other than Soma.
This episode provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: There's a montage of other students at their Stagiaires with some new scenes:
- Takumi has a shared internship with Urara Kawashima at a Maid Cafe.
- Hayama is assigned to a plant.
- Alice works at a ramen shop.
- Isami is seen regaining his weight during his internship.
- Ryou and Shun are seen arriving to their restaurants and the current situation with each of them.
- Adapted Out: The scene in which one student is expelled for tweeting complaints about his assigned restaurant is cut to one capture in the montage.
- Be Careful What You Wish For / Exact Words:Shinomiya: I won't accept anyone less than one of the Autumn Election finalists.
Shinomiya: [later] I wasn't expecting you, of all people, Yukihira. - Benevolent Boss: As noted by his employees, Shinomiya became this after his trip to Japan (while he still has his temper bits, he is still far nicer). One example was Shinomiya cooking them lunch and allowing to open one of the good wines between them.
- Continuity Nod: Shinomiya remembers that Soma had the guts to challenge him to a Shokugeki, which indicates that he has what it takes to survive on his own.
- The Determinator: Despite starting with a bad first day, Soma wastes no time picking up on his own and learning as much as possible from Abel and Lucie. Abel wonders why Soma is still so eager after being scolded so much.
- Dope Slap: Koujirou gives Abel a chop to the head when he picks an inferior wine for lunch.
- Evolving Credits: In the opening 'Rough Diamonds', instead of Subaru, Shinomiya and his staff are presented. In the ending 'Snow Drop', the person lying in the flower field is Shinomiya.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Abel got annoyed that Soma was already too casual with Shinomiya, after he himself had to work hard to get Shinomiya's approval (and he only got it because his boss had a Character Development during that time). This also contributed to his stern treatment at Soma, declaring openly that he didn't consider Soma a core member of the staff yet.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: From the SHINO staff, Abel is the most cold towards Soma, often scolding or glaring at him, but his attitude was understandable, considering that Soma's lack of experience was slowing the work flow of the kitchen. He eventually agreed to teach Soma as much as possible and finally acknowledged him as part of the team near the end of the week.
- Hard-Work Montage:
- The three pre-open days are shown fast with scenes of Soma learning from every mistake on the line.
- We get to see other students at their Stagiaire, including some others failing at it.
- Hero-Worshipper: Abel has a great admiration for Shinomiya, to the point he gets jealous of Soma's seemingly closeness.
- Oh, Crap!: During Soma's first day in the pre-open, he realizes that French cuisine had a very different pacing than his usual service at Yukihira's. The first one was when he made a brief noise, which Shinomiya warned him to not do it again. And the second happened when he realized that his preparation wasn't done correctly and fell behind, slowing one table and breaking the work flow. Despite his mistakes, Soma wasted no time to rectify.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: The students failing the Stagiaire are only shown in a quick montage.
- Token Minority: Among SHINO's staff, Shinomiya (Japanese) and Wei (Chinese) are this. In SHINO's Tokyo, Abel and Lucie are the only French cooks there.
- Tsundere: While cleaning the restaurant, Abel, Lucie and Wei comment that their boss became much nicer after his last trip to Japan and that he is actually a nice person after all. Cut to a scary Shinomiya looming behind the kitchen door with a Death Glare to shut them up.
