The confrontation between Akira and Soma is finally on, as the round for the Block A is about to get concluded.
This episode provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion:
- Jouichirou is seen in another location grilling sardines.
- After the Preliminaries, we get to see that Jun got drunk by herself celebrating Akira passing to the next round. Also Alice and Ryou go to Erina's office to try and get her to celebrate.
- Erina recalls Soma's dish and only the smell was enough to give her a Imaginary Spot foodgasm.
- The party closes with Soma feeding Megumi another of his experiments. In the manga version, the girls manage to stop Soma from doing his weird dishes.
- Book Ends: Happens to both the episode and the season in general.
- The episode opens with Jouichirou making Grilled Sardines with Yogurt. By the end of the episode, Soma feeds Megumi a sample of Squid Tentacles with Yogurt. This also ties to the whole season, when Soma fed Mayumi his squid dish in the first episode.
- Jouichirou also laughs at his failed dish, while the word "Disgusting" appears.
- Broken Base: In-Universe, as the judges nearly get into a fist fight on which dish was the best, Soma or Akira's.
- Call-Back:
- Erina's foodgasm was reminiscent of her first foodgasm caused by another dish of Soma, where she gets swarmed by little Somas.
- Coy, Girlish Flirt Pose: Natsume Sendawara tries to use a seductive tone to convince Akira to work for her company. It doesn't work.
- Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: This time Fumio is humming Kibou no Uta while having snacks at her room.
- Drunk on Milk: Apparently, Ryoko's rice juice was enough to get Takumi in his fired up mode, where he starts to ramble about defeating Soma. Isami just dismisses this as normal.
- Evolving Credits: In the Opening Rising Rainbow, Megumi's vegetables are bell peppers.
- Impossibly Delicious Food: Two cases that made the judges fight over which was better.
- Akira Hayama's Naan Pot Pie Curry impressed the judges with two perfect scores from Natsume Sendawara and Makito Minatozawa. The dish consists of a lid of Roti Naan and a stew made of Sea Bass head, a special spice blend made by Akira, Holy Basil and Yogurt, to prevent the Holy Basil from overpowering the dish.
- Soma Yukihira's Curry Risotto Omelette, despite scoring one point lower than Akira's, managed to get better scores from three of the judges. The rice was made of spices, bananas, apples and mango chutney, while the omelette covering it was also garnished by a special Oyster sauce.
- Plucky Girl: Yuuki tries to repress her sadness by putting a happy face, until she starts crying to Fumio (and even that is comical).
- Pyrrhic Victory: Akira's Naan Pot Pie Curry scores one more point than Soma's Curry Risotto Omelette, however since three of the judges gave Soma a higher score than Akira, that would technically make Soma the winner according to Food War rules.
- Sequel Hook: The season ends with the conclusion of the Preliminary Round. There's still the Main Tournament to be seen.
- Undying Loyalty: Akira refuses a job offer from Natsume Sendawara because he only fights for Jun.
- The Unreveal: Shun and Marui don't pass to the Main Tournament. The name of the 8th finalist isn't revealed.
