The New Hero Next Door is the fifth episode in Series 6 of Fireman Sam.
Norman dresses up as a superhero to star in Mandy's movie.
Tropes:
- Action Duo: For the first time, Elvis doesn't appear in the episode, so all the rescues are performed by Sam, who leads the land rescue, and Penny, who leads the ocean rescue.
- An Aesop:
- Charlie: If you see someone in danger, don't put yourself in danger trying to rescue them.
- Sarah: Don't pretend to scream for help.
- Amateur Film-Making Plot: Mandy wants to make a rescue movie, but since the actual rescue services are occupied, they instead stage a pretend rescue.
- Bad "Bad Acting": James is cast as the villain in Mandy's film, and he gives a very wooden performance.
- Distressed Dude: Charlie mistakes Sarah's acting as her actually being in danger, and while attempting to save her, his boat hits a rock, knocking him overboard and necessitating Sam and Penny coming to rescue him.
- Imagine Spot: After hearing about Sam rescuing Lion off the roof, Charlie imagines being a hero, and rescuing a giant fish from the ocean.
- Papa Wolf: When Charlie hears Sarah acting as the victim in Mandy's film, he thinks she's actually in danger and immediately rushes the boat in to save her.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Dilys watches the complete film and realizes Norman-Man's "cape" is her shower curtain, Norman takes off running, thus concluding the episode.
- Underwear of Power: Norman-Man's costume includes a bright-red pair of underwear over his regular clothes.
