In 1953, the disfigured bodies of two boys are exhumed at a construction site, the future location of Winden's power plant.

- Rule of Three: Tannhaus explains to the stranger the significance of the number three: There are three dimensions, the future, the present and the past. They are represented by the Triquetra symbol. Furthermore, every 33 years the sun and the moon align in a special way that also aligns the three dimensions.
- String Theory: On a wall in a windowless room, there are photos showing the characters from different times connected by strings.
- What Year Is This?: After ending up in 1953, Ulrich asks Mrs Nielsen what year it is.
- Would Hurt a Child: Ulrich is convinced that Helge will be responsible for the deaths of the disappeared boys, including his son and brother, and tries to prevent these things from ever happening. He smashes a rock against Helge's head, giving him his prominent scar.
