Teenager Freddy Stewart is found with an arrow sticking out of his eye at night.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Julian ended up killing Freddy completely by accident, since the crossbow they stole was so old and rusty it shot on its own. Coupled with his young age, it's probably the reason why he's only given a one-year sentence on a juvenile detention center.
Julian: Once we had run off to the park, he put it in my hands, he was laughing and everything!
But it was older and rustier than we thought... The arrow went off on its own... I never wanted to hurt him! It's an accident!
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sure, we found out who killed Freddy, but the killer was just a 12-year-old kid... and it was an accident. That leaves everyone with a bad taste in the mouth.
Jones: I know we had to bring him to justice but... I won't be doing that every day <Player's Name>.
  • The Confidant: Edward knew about the Stewart sibling's crimes, but decided to not report them since he and his son were good friends with them.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After the arrest of his son, Edward drinks so much he ends up losing the key to his car.
  • Enfant Terrible: Subverted. Even if he's a thief and an accidental killer, Julian is just a kid who wanted to be friends with the person he admired so much, even if it meant participating in his robberies.
Jones: It's just crazy how a stupid, childish mistake can destroy so many lives... Julian is a good kid, better than most even, and he's gonna spend the next year behind bars...
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Ramirez gains these due to Sleep Deprivation.
  • Eye Scream: This is how the victim is found. It's... not pretty.
  • False Confession: Edward Ramis falsely confesses for the murder of Freddy to protect his son. Fortunately, the player manages to see through his facade.
  • Good Parents: Even if he's a little stern and is willing to overlook some crimes, it's clear that Edward loves his son, which is why he tried to take the heat from him.
  • Just Like Robin Hood: Freddy and his sister Ramona were a pair of thieves who only targeted rich people. Of course, Ramona knew that stealing from the Greene family was a bad idea, but Freddy didn't listen.
  • Moe Greene Special: Freddy died when his killer shot a crossbow bolt through his eye.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The case's title references the U.K. song of the same name.
    • In the Cooper Park Fountain scene, there is a "moth-signal" shining in the sky.
    • MWB is a parody of BMW.
  • Only the Leads Get a Happy Ending: And even that is kind of a stretch. The player and the team actually get the culprit and are able to send them to justice. The thing is that the culprit is a kid, who is being put into a reformatory due to a mistake. Years later, turns out that Julian gets the worst of it, still being called a criminal to that day.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Ramirez.
Jones: Holy crap, Ramirez, when was the last time you took a break? You look awful!
Ramirez: I want to help the investigation, officers... Someone's got to answer the phone...
  • Taking the Heat: Edward does this, since it was his son who actually killed Freddy.
  • Tempting Fate: Jones should really start keeping his mouth shut.
Jones: Don't you just love night shift, <Player's Name>? Waiting for the insomniac killers of the world to make a move...
Ramirez: We've just got a call in! Someone's reported a murder!
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Julian, the one who reported the body, also turns out to be the killer, albeit of the accidental variety.
  • You Did the Right Thing: Chief King says this to you after you arrest Julian, noting how it shouldn't have been easy.
