"It's obvious this whole town has conspired to convince me not to live here! The weird sexcapades of Brent and his friends, people tossing their kids out, and the constant smothering by this woman who dresses all slutty!"

A Plot: Lacey is tasked with getting a young doctor to move to Dog River, who turns out to be a woman from an even smaller town. Through various misunderstandings, the doctor is convinced the whole town is trying to drive her away, so she flees.

B Plot: Hank has to stay elsewhere while his house is fixed, but no one wants to keep him for very long. This causes him to jump from place to place.

C Plot: A customer pays Brent with a $100 bill and Brent is worried it might be counterfeit. It ends up working out in his favour when he finds out that he can use it to get stuff for free because nobody else is willing to take the bill, either because they're also worried it's fake or because they simply don't want to bother with the hassle of making change.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Accidental Innuendo: invokedWhenever other characters discuss their episode plots in front of Dr. Garner, they end up using ambiguous wording that makes everything sound to her like sexual acts of varying depravity.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Brent consistently refers to Sir Robert Borden (the guy on the $100 bill) as "Gordon".
  • Counterfeit Cash: No one can tell if Brent's $100 bill is real, least of all Brent himself.
  • Description Cut: The committee assures Lacey that she's the first person they've asked to show Dr. Garner around town. This immediately cuts to a montage of the several people they asked before her who all said no.
  • Fun with Acronyms:
    • The Committee to Convince a Young Doctor to Live in Dog River, or CTCAYDTLIDR (pronounced "kit-kay-dit-tiddler") for "short".
    • The Greater Regional Rural Administratve Zone, or G-Double-R-AZ ("grazz").
  • Hidden Depths: When Hank stays with the Leroys, he shows a penchant for gardening.
Oscar: You don't have to pretend to like the things that Emma does. That's my job.
Hank: Emma, are your azaleas variegated?
    Oscar: [impressed] Good pretending.
  • Hilarity Ensues: All the things Dr. Garner sees or hears that convince her to leave.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: This is the reason Hank gets passed from house to house.
  • Miming the Cues: Lacey shows off her outfit to Brent, and Wanda knows Lacey wants to be seen as "flirty" for the new doctor. Wanda tries to mime this to Brent while behind Lacey, but he mangles it badly, only able to come up with "flimsy" and "flaky". Lacey leaves the scene justifiably hurt and angry.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Everyone assumes that Dr. Chris Garner is a man. It turns out Chris is short for Christine.
  • Stock Lateral Thinking Puzzle: Karen gives several to Hank. He doesn't get any of them.
  • Welcome to the Big City: Parodied. Dr. Garner comes from a (somehow) even smaller town than Dog River and is overwhelmed by what is essentially a bustling metropolis to her.
Dr. Garner: I'm accustomed to a slower pace.
    Emma: ...There's a slower pace?
