"I hate having my eyes opened!"

A Plot: Lacey brings expensive wine to dinner at the Leroy house, and afterwards the Leroys find that they just can't go back to the cheaper stuff. Upset at being bumped up into a higher wine bracket, they attempt a "revenge brunch" to get Lacey hooked on finer dining in return.

B Plot: Hank wins the lottery, but only $480. This still causes him to be wary of everyone around him.

C Plot: Karen gets Davis to buy new shoes, but breaking them in proves difficult, causing Davis to bring "the whirlwind" of crankiness.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Bewildering Punishment: Lacey is baffled about the Leroys' revenge plot when all she did was bring nice wine and buy nice jam.
  • Description Cut:
Hank: Man, everybody wants a piece of me!
Wanda: Hank, nobody wants your money.
Oscar: [walking in] Hank, I want your money!
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: Courtesy of Lacey, the Leroys get hooked on various expensive food that they initially claim not to enjoy before trying it. They also get "bumped up to a new bracket" on types of food they already enjoyed by trying a more expensive version and being unable to go back to the cheaper stuff. Bemoaning the high cost of feeding their new cravings, they plot a "revenge brunch" hoping to get Lacey hooked on expensive and/or hard-to-make food in return, but Lacey shows up late and they can't restrain themselves from eating all the food themselves before she gets there. Lacey ends up getting hooked on Emma's meatloaf instead: the cheapest, easiest thing she knows how to make. Lacey even unintentionally twists the knife by thanking Emma for the meatloaf recipe since she's saving loads of money because of it. Though the Leroys do get some satisfaction when Hank gives her a fancy pen with expensive refills, bumping her up to a new pen bracket and outweighing the money saved by the meatloaf.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: A more mundane variation, where the expensive brands that the Leroys try leave them dissatisfied with the original, cheaper foods they're used to eating.
  • Instant Taste Addiction: Lacey gifts the Leroys expensive foods that they become addicted to (fancy wine for Oscar and Emma, marmalade for Brent), leaving them no longer able to enjoy the cheap alternatives they used to like. They plot a revenge brunch to get her addicted to other expensive foods in turn, but Lacey shows up after they've already eaten everything and all they have to serve her is some leftover meatloaf from a previous meal. Lacey becomes addicted to the meatloaf, which is the cheapest, easiest thing they know how to make. Hank then tries to gift the Leroys some expensive chocolate, since he heard they've been into fancy food lately, but they refuse the gift because they don't want to become addicted to the chocolate too.
  • Men Don't Cry: Davis refuses to let the new shoes break him, despite his discomfort.
  • Mixed Metaphor:
Lacey: People keep taking my pens.
Oscar: Hey, finders keepers, Losey Suzie.
Brent: Yeah, that's how that goes.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Hank's idea to buy everyone gifts with his lotto winnings backfires when, due to various reasons, everyone hates what he's bought.
  • Rags to Riches: Parodied. Hank wins a measly $480 in the lottery, but since he's perpetually broke, that is a lot of money to him, and it goes right to his head.
  • Shout-Out: Wanda is able to convince Hank to give his money away by explaining that The Smurfs had no money but were happy.
  • Strangely Arousing:
Emma: Oscar thinks there's something lewd about salsa.
Lacey: [covering her mouth in shock] Oh, salsa!
