Recap / Castle S 5 E 12 Death Gone Crazy

Go To

Beau Randolph, the founder of hit adult video franchise "College Girls Gone Crazy" and a suspect in "Head Case", is found strangled to death, sending Castle and Beckett headlong into the seedy world of pornography. While dealing with blackmailers, rival franchises and fervent protest groups, they discover an ambitious producer who will stop at nothing to keep the franchise alive.

  • Back for the Dead: Beau Randolph appeared as a minor character in Season 4's "Head Case", and is back here to meet his maker.
  • Bodyguard Babes: Scarlet Jones was one for Beau Randolph. She is also a Femme Fatale Spy.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: The motive. Beau was planning to end College Girls Gone Crazy after learning he was going to be a father, but his business partner didn't appreciate the news and killed him for it. When he's arrested, he rants how he's unable to understand how Beau could just give up everything they worked for just like that. Castle counters that he is about to find out in prison for his crimes.
  • Improvised Weapon: Beau was strangled with a woman's bra.
  • Love Redeems: Upon learning that he has a child, Beau decided to end his franchise and start over so that he could be someone his soon-to-be-born daughter could look up to.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Ronald Armstrong's reaction to the possibility that his stance against Beau may have pushed his daughter Candace to murder him. Thankfully, it isn't the case at all.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The episode revolves around "College Girls Gone Crazy", a thinly veiled take on "Girls Gone Wild", a controversial porn site from the oughts.
  • Porn Creator Going Mainstream: In Beau Randolph's previous appearance he ran a porn company. However, the investigation reveals that he was planning to shut down his porn company and was trying to invest in a wholesome family entertainment company. The head of the family company, Ronald Armstrong, was afraid Randolph was trying to use the clean image of that brand to peddle his tawdry wares. But it turns out that Randolph had learned that a one-night stand had resulted in pregnancy, and that the baby was going to be a daughter. The young woman he'd been with was, ironically, the daughter of Armstrong, and Randolph was reevaluating his whole life now that he found out he was going to be a father. His partner, who knew none of this, killed him when he learned that he was shutting down the company instead of turning it over to him.
  • Principles Zealot: Ronald Armstrong has become one in his efforts to "clean up" modern culture. His daughter has become somewhat estranged from him as a result.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: Candace Mayfield/Armstrong had slept with Beau, causing her pregnancy.
  • Undignified Death: Well, how dignified would you call being choked to death with a bra?
