Recap / Camp Camp S 2 E 9 Eggs Benefits

Go To

When the platypus lays some eggs, Cameron Campbell instructs the campers to pair up and take care of them. He needs to sell the eventual hatchlings to get out of some trouble, but can platypus babies survive the parenting styles of the campers?

Tropes:

  • Awful Wedded Life: Nerris and Harrison are paired together, and quickly grow to hate each other. Nerris keeps trying to push their egg (which she names Eggolas) to be a dungeon master, while Harrison (who calls the egg Omelet) wants to teach it stage magic.
  • Continuity Nod: In "Camp Kool Kidz", Cameron mentioned that he could become prime minister of Thailand if he won a poker game. In this episode, we learn that he won, but is now in trouble because he embezzled their money.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Apparently, Cameron didn't research the marketability of platypus babies, judging from this exchange;
David: Golly! Are platypus babies really that valuable?
Cameron: (Suddenly looking worried) They'd better be.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Nikki's freakout about how to take care of her egg is very similar to a lot of first-time mothers worrying that they don't know how to raise a child.
  • Domestic Abuse: Nurf unwittingly begins to recreate his own broken childhood, and inflicts the worst of it on Preston.
  • Foreshadowing: Max isn't really much of a parent and puts almost zero effort into raising their egg. His behavior makes a whole lot more sense a few episodes later, when we find out that he was raised in a very similar way.
  • Free-Range Children: Dolph and Ered follow this style of parenting. Their egg smashes to yolk pulp after Ered attempts to teach it to skateboard.
  • How Is That Even Possible?: Nurf becomes such a horribly abusive parent that his egg somehow runs away.
  • Hope Spot: Max and Nikki's egg hatches, and Max even falls in love with the baby platypus. Then the mother eats it.
  • Lazy Husband: He can be forgiven, considering that it's an egg and not a real child, but Max is definitely not pulling his weight in this project.
  • My Beloved Smother:
    • Neil goes all-out with his and Space Kid's egg.
    • While she doesn't go quite to the same lengths, Nikki is clearly freaking out over how best to raise their egg.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Every time an egg break, it causes Cameron physical pain.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Cameron Campbell flees to Russia to escape justice for embezzling Thailand's treasury.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Ultimately, none of the eggs survive.
  • Ship Tease: Within reason, considering it's a show about children. This episode is basically what all the campers would be like as parents.
  • Your Tomcat Is Pregnant: Muack turns out to be female (despite having poison spurs) when it lays a bunch of eggs.

Nurf Jr. runs away

While Egg Sitting, Nurf turns out to be an abusive partner to Preston. This causes Nurf Jr. to run away from his broken home. Did we mention that Nurf Jr. is an egg?
