Recap / Bluey – "Hide and Seek"

Go To

Bluey asks Bandit to play Hide-and-Seek, but he says he needs a minute. Bluey asks why the garden gnome nearby is just sitting there, to which Bandit says it’s practicing not getting distracted. Bluey says that’s easy but immediately gets distracted by a dragonfly.

The family begins the game of hide-and-seek, with Bluey playing the seeker. The rest of the family has concerns, and makes Bluey promise to keep focus and not forget about looking for them.

After a few minutes of staying on task, Bluey finds a forgotten toy named Chattermax in the laundry room cupboard. She forgets all about playing the game and starts searching for Chattermax’s food, takes Chattermax to the toilet after it finishes eating and then to the bathroom to wash its hands.

While having a tea party she becomes fed up with Chattermax’s noisiness. She tries to turn it off but there is no off switch and she can’t find the battery port. She yells for help but wonders why no-one is answering. In the garden she finds the gnome she and Bandit were talking about earlier which jogs her memory and reminds her of what she was doing.

Bluey finishes the game in quick order. They laugh about what just happened, and now it’s Bingo’s turn. Bluey briefly gets distracted by a dragonfly, but remembers to stay on task. Bluey and Chilli hide in the pantry, and Chilli asks where Chattermax is.

Bluey says she put him somewhere really peaceful: in the garden right next to the meditating gnome.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Bluey has a bad habit of getting distracted easily: in this episode alone she twice gets distracted by a dragonfly and by Chattermax while playing hide-and-seek. This episode has her growing out of this trait.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The garden gnome. When Bluey stumbles upon it, it reminds her that she was playing hide-and-seek.
  • Closet Shuffle: Bandit’s choice of hiding place; he hides on the top shelf of the linen closet. Unfortunately a Christmas tree was poking into his back the entire time.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Chattermax. Bluey finds it adorable but it is also very loud and jumps around a lot. It gets so noisy that Bluey of all people gets fed up with it and tries to turn it off.
  • Face Palm: Chilli does this when she sees Bluey has completely forgotten about playing hide-and-seek.
  • Faux Furby: The Chattermax toy. It is similar in shape, talks and has the same large, bulging eyes that Furbys have. Though unlike a Furby toy, Chattermax has physical pellets of food called Chattersnax that it consumes. It also poops the food when it’s done eating.
  • Garbage Hideout: Nobody actually hides in the garbage, but at the end of the episode when Bingo is seeking we hear her check the bin off-screen.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Bluey tells Bandit not getting distracted is easy, only to immediately have her attention drawn away by a dragonfly.
  • Lotus Position: The garden gnome in the flower bed looks like it is serenely meditating in this position, and later Bluey mimics this pose to help her focus and remind herself of what she was doing.
  • Right Under Their Noses: Chilli hides in the shower, concealed by nothing but a clear glass door.
  • Toy Disguise: Bingo hides in the toy basket, and is plausibly small enough to be mistaken for a toy.
