Recap / Bluey Bike

Go To

Bandit has taken Bluey to the park, where she's trying to ride a bike but having trouble. He offers to help her, but she refuses despite her struggles. She then gets off her bike and sits by the bench, sulking that it's unfair how she's having so much trouble learning and declaring that she'll never ride it again.

Then, Bingo comes along and tries to drink out of a drinking fountain, but she's too short. She tries climbing to reach it, but then the fountain turns off. Meanwhile, Bentley tries to use the monkey bars, but she's also too short, and Muffin tries to put a backpack on but she also has trouble.

The other three girls try again — Bingo tries climbing to the water again, Bentley tries jumping to reach the monkey bars, and Muffin tries spinning to get the backpack on — but they all fail and Muffin throws a tantrum over it.Then, Bentley tries jumping again, but it doesn't work, and much like Bluey with her bike, she gets angry that she can't learn straight away. Bingo again fails to reach the water, making her sad. Bluey wants to go to help her, but Bandit holds her back.

Then, the three girls in the park stop sulking and decide to try again, this time in different ways. Muffin crawls on her back and slides into the backpack, Bentley climbs to reach the monkey bars, and Bingo holds down the button on the drinking fountain until it overflows, then laps up the puddle on the ground. Bluey is thus inspired to try her bike again.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Bluey wears a crash helmet when riding her bike.
  • Age-Appropriate Angst: The girls keep getting sad and/or angry over minor setbacks like not being able to play on the monkey bars. However, this is normal since they're all between the ages of three and six.
  • Agitated Item Stomping: Muffin angrily stomps on her backpack after she can't figure out how to get it on.
  • The Determinator: Bluey's arc is learning that, although riding a bicycle is difficult, the trick is to not give up. Meanwhile, the story also focuses on Bingo, Bentley, and Muffin's determination to complete challenges (drinking from a water fountain, reaching the monkey bars, and donning a backpack with a finnicky strap) they feel they can't overcome. Their success, in turn, makes Bluey determined to ride her first bike.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Bentley, being too small to reach the monkey bars, manages to get to them by climbing up the frame. After a moment's triumph, she realises that she can't get back down.
  • Furry Reminder: Bingo finds a way to drink from the water fountain by spilling the water on the pavement and then licking it off like a real-life dog. Bandit is somewhat put off by this, like a father watching a human kid drink off the ground would be.
  • Happy Dance: Bandit and Bluey dance with joy when the other three girls succeed at what they'd been trying to do.
  • Little Professor Dialogue: Muffin uses the word "unacceptable" during what Bandit calls "the meltdown".
  • Mundane Made Awesome: When Bluey had decided against learning to ride her bike, she and Bandit witness the other kids learning to do things for the first time. Bingo learns to use a water fountain, Bentley learns to swing on the monkey bars, and Muffin learns to put on her backpack. All the while, it's framed as awe-inspiring and accompanied by an exciting take on "Ode to Joy"!
  • Not so Dire: Inverted: When struggling to try and drink from the water fountain, Bingo becomes convinced that failing to do so means she won't be able to drink water at all anymore.
  • Pain to the Ass: When Bentley jumps from the monkey bars, she says, "Ow!" and rubs her butt.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: While sulking about not being able to put her backpack on, Muffin yells, "This! Is! Unacceptable! Why?! Won't?! You!? Go?! On?! My?! Back!?".
  • Shout-Out: Bentley gets stuck on the monkey bars with no obvious way to get down and says to no one in particular "I'd like to get down now."
  • Single Tear: Bingo cries one teardrop after her third failed attempt at using the drinking fountain.
  • Slapstick: Bentley lands ungracefully when trying to jump to the monkey bars, while Muffin spins so hard she dizzies herself and falls over backwards.
