Megatron creates an organic clone of Dinobot and has him infiltrate the Axalon in order to disable Sentinel.
Tropes:
- Beam-O-War: Between Megatron and Dinobot. Megatron comes close to winning before Optimus breaks it with a missile.
- Borrowed Catchphrase: Rattrap borrows Optimus' "Well, that's just prime," when he finds out that the only Maximal manning the base is Dinobot (whom he thinks has turned traitor).
- …But He Sounds Handsome: Dinobot mockingly expresses how much of a shame it was that he had to kill his clone, since "he was such a handsome creature...and quite tasty."
- Combat Pragmatist: The clone doesn't bother fighting Dinobot directly, opting instead to just use the various mechanisms in the base to its advantage.
- Convection, Schmonvection: Rattrap manages to ride a rock down a river of lava without getting so much as a blister.
- Crazy-Prepared: Turns out that Sentinel was programed to require a code to deactivate if it doesn't detect a Maximal energy signature, and electrocutes anybody who enters the code incorrectly.
- Getting Crap Past the Radar: While the Dinobot clone is trying to deactivate Sentinel, the shot changes to behind the projection as some more text appears next to a diagram that says "hey ian go fuck yourself", making one wonder what either Ian James Corlett or Ian Pearson did to piss off an animator.
- Honor Before Reason: Dinobot could have easily destroyed his clone in robot form, but since the clone at a clear disadvantage from its inability to transform, he faces it honorably as a raptor.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Dinobot gets rid of the clone by eating him (offscreen, naturally). Maximals are shocked when he tells them. It's played for laughs.Optimus (deadpan): You're disgusting.
- Lava Surfing: Rattrap engages in a bit of this when he tries to survive a river of lava.
- Manipulative Bastard: Dinobot's clone manages to trick the Maximals out of their own base with a fake warning about Predacon assault that gets him and Rattrap sent to scout it. While out with Rattrap he tries to kill him by pushing him into lava before returning to Optimus with claims Megatron is using a device to mask the Predacons' presence and a lie about Rattrap being "trapped" and Optimus needing to save him, while lying about where to find Rattrap.
- Mirror Routine: When Dinobot and his clone encounter each other for the first time, they go through nearly a minute where they mimic the movements of the other in stunned confusion.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Megatron mentions the clone of Dinobot he created, which the rest of the Maximals overhear when they arrive. This has the effect of proving Dinobot innocent of any wrongdoing and preventing any distrust of him from spreading in the Maximal ranks (besides Rattrap, but that's just par the course).
- Oh, Crap!:
- Rattrap's face says it all when the Dinobot clone breaks the tree he's standing on, sending the Maximal plummeting into the lava.
- When Dinobot reverts to his robot form to deal with the clone, the latter can only whimper a horrified "Oh no," before cowering in fear.
- Trash the Set: During the fight between Dinobots, the clone smashes Dinobot through the glass of Axalon's entry chamber, then starts tearing apart chairs from their bolts with his tail. Cheetor remarks upon the damage when the other Maximals return to base.
- Troll: Dinobot pretends to be his clone when Megatron arrives at the Maximal base and leaves it seemingly defenseless, only to turn to the Deflector Shields back on when Megatron tries to enter, just to mess with him. He has a clear look of amusement on his face while he's at it.
