Recap / As Told By Ginger S 2 E 03 Fast Reputation

Go To

Ginger gets repeatedly called a 'Nice Girl' by the likes of Mipsy and Miranda, and doesn't like how it sounds. This, coupled with overhearing an attractive high schooler called Jake talk about a party, leads her to crash said party with Dodie and Macie to try and change her reputation.

Carl and Hoodsey meanwhile develop a knack for cooking, and end up outdoing Chef Bob with their new business.

Tropes:

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Jake is a bad boy aesthetically, with his piercings and leather jacket. But he seems to be an otherwise Nice Guy who even turns out to have a girlfriend.
  • Almost Kiss: Ginger and Jake are framed this way under the snack table, but nothing happens.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Ginger wished people would stop thinking of her as a boring, nice girl. Then when they start thinking she Really Gets Around, she hates that even more.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Carl of all people turns out to be a very gifted chef. However, it's subverted when someone from the health department shuts him down for how unclean his stand is, as well as serving food without gloves on.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Ginger is embarrassed at the dentist's when she's declared 'Clean Mouth of the Month', and Jake remembering that later and casually calling her that to the popular girls leads to a rumor being spread.
  • Comically Missing the Point: While Miranda is focusing on Jake calling Ginger 'clean mouth' and the words 'make out', Courtney is wondering about the 'pearly whites'; assuming that's something Ginger was wearing.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Miranda didn't want to go to the party because it was on a school night. Understandable for a cop's daughter.
  • Extreme Doormat: Ginger fears that her nice girl reputation is making people think she's this.
  • For the Evulz: Courtney has a moment of questioning whether spreading the rumor about Ginger and Jake is fair to the former's reputation. Miranda on the other hand happily does it because it's just that good gossip.
  • Innocent Innuendo: Jake referring to Ginger as 'clean mouth' is actually completely innocent, but Miranda thinks it means something else.
  • Madonna-Whore Complex: Ginger is fed up with being considered a 'nice girl' but then she's also annoyed with rumors being spread about her making out with high school boys.
  • No Romantic Resolution: The end of the episode reveals that Jake has a girlfriend, and he never appears in the series again.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Well no one sees Ginger and Jake under the snack table, but him simply mentioning that's where they were leads to Miranda believing the worst. Not helped by him returning her house keys.
  • Slut-Shaming: The girls find graffiti that reads 'Ginger Foutley Is Fast', which an older viewer will automatically get the meaning of.
  • "Walk on the Wild Side" Episode: Ginger and friends crash a high school party, leading to a rumor being started about her and an older boy.
  • Wild Teen Party: Quite tame by the standards of this trope, but it's said that the party is being thrown while a girl's parents are out of town, and on a school night as well! Ginger, Dodie and Macie avoid any of the wildness by staying in front of the snack table the whole night.
