Basic Trope: All Spanish-speaking countries are portrayed as the same place.

  • Straight: Spain and Tropeco are portrayed as having the exact same culture despite being an entire ocean apart from each other. With flamenco dancing, mariachi bands, sombreros, tacos, and corrupt tyrannical dictators.
  • Exaggerated: Spain and Tropeco are portrayed not only culturally and politically the same but also geographically the same with both having rainforests, mayan pyramids, gold, deserts, volcanos, long mountain chains, and basques.
  • Downplayed: Spain and Tropeco have similar cultures but have minor differences here and there.
  • Justified:
    • Other groups and cultures have left little to no impact on Tropeco's culture compare to Spain.
    • The people of Tropeco are jealous of Spain's prosperity and seeks to emulate them.
    • Tropeco has achieved independence from Spain only a mere hundred years ago.
    • The work focuses on Spanish immigrants to Tropeco, or vice versa.
    • This is what the View-Point Character believes.
  • Inverted: Spain is depicted having Tropeco's culture and landmarks while Tropeco has the ones of Spain.
  • Subverted: A Hawaiian-Shirted Tourist goes about Tropeco asking about the running of the bulls. The locals are understandably annoyed.
  • Double Subverted: ...specifically, the local flamenco dancers he's asking.
  • Parodied: Spain's and Tropeco's cultures end up so mixed that among other things you have mariachis accompaniying flamenco dancers with their music and/or during the San Fermines/bullfights, Madrid and Tropeco City are presented as surrounded by an improbable mix of jungles, volcanoes, oak and pine groves, a mountain chain, plains and deserts, and the cuisine is an improbable and messy mix of both.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Spain and Tropeco are portrayed as two different countries who just happen to speak the same language.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Wow, Tropeco is a lot like Spain and Spain is a lot like Tropeco."
  • Invoked: Tropecan merchants sell clothing, food, goods; etc. that are characteristic of Spanish culture, or vice versa.
  • Exploited:
    • An unscrupulous travel agency manipulates unwitting travelers into booking for Spain instead of Tropeco, as it's more profitable to them than Tropeco.
    • Merchants from either country sell merchandise based on the other.
  • Defied: A prospect traveler educates themselves on the difference between Spain and Tropeco.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed:
    • Spain and Tropeco are mistaken for the same place so often that they try desperately to develop their own unique identity. This fails and results in the decline and eventual collapse of both countries.
    • Bob inadvertently refers to Carlos by the wrong nationality, the one which Bob would be more familiar with; this severely offends Carlos and strains their relationship.
  • Played For Laughs: Spain and Tropeco are so similar that it leads to confusion among tourists about which country is which. Which leads to them to grow angry at the other, lead to the a long and bloody war.
