Basic Trope: A character is seen as dangerous or unpredictable because they're too honest or morally consistent with their ideals.
- Straight: Alice is considered a greater threat by the villains than her more cynical or selfish counterparts because her sincerity and/or genuine selfishness is difficult for them to comprehend and/or she's way more committed to stopping them.
- Exaggerated: Alice is huge Determinator who's dedication to her ideals makes her physically tougher.
- Downplayed: Alice is legitimately bad at lying and is usually not trusted with secrets.
- Justified: The villains believe Alice's nobility is futile and see their less scrupulous opponents as the greater threat. This leads them to view more honest foes as naive and foolish, and thus underestimate them.
- The villain is a Manipulative Bastard who relies on preying upon people's darker nature or appealing to their hidden, more selfish motivations. Naturally, this is far less effective on more sincere, idealistic, and committed opponents.
- Inverted: Alice is so dangerous because she's a Consummate Liar.
- Subverted: Alice reveals that a lot of her supposed honesty was a ploy to win over friends and allies, while hiding her true nature.
- Double Subverted: Alice pretended to be a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing to gain the trust of the Big Bad, exploiting his belief that all people are secretly like that.
- Parodied: The Big Bad is literally, physically hurt by honesty.
- Zig-Zagged: Alice's honesty can screw her over at times and lead her to be too trusting but comes in handy just as often where more paranoid of deceitful behavior fails.
- Averted: Alice's honesty doesn't make her a greater problem for anyone to deal with.
- Enforced: The author is writing about a story about the failures of cynicism and selfishness when compared to optimism and commitment to one's ideals.
- Lampshaded: "You know, everyone expects the liars to get ahead. No one ever watches out for me. That was your mistake."
- Invoked: The Order deliberately recruits and trains people with greater integrity with the basis of this trope.
- Exploited: The Government seeks out Alice to deal with opponents who excel at Realpolitik and manipulation.
- Defied: A Genre Savvy character tries to prevent a trope from happening.
- Discussed: Genre Savvy characters talk about the trope in a situation where it is likely to occur.
- Conversed: Genre Savvy characters talk about the trope in a Show Within a Show.
- Implied: A villain remarks that The Paladin is the most troublesome hero to deal with.
- Deconstructed: Alice is dangerous to everyone, not just the Big Bad, because her sheer dedication to her beliefs makes her a Well-Intentioned Extremist who will do anything for her cause.
- Reconstructed: Alice's willingness to go to such extremes is exactly what ends up doing in the Big Bad.
- Alice learns to temper her fervor with restrain to avoid collateral damage, but remains just as committed as before.
- Played for Laughs: Alice becomes gradually more irritated that villains keep trying tempt Alice to their side with speeches depending on her heroism being an act or her being Secretly Selfish, leading her to become a Deadpan Snarker whenever such a speech occurs.
