Playing With / Angry White Man

Go To

Basic Trope: A white male with a persecution complex who is offended or angered by any form of inclusion of people of non-white color, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc.

  • Straight: Will White is a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant male who unreasonably thinks that inclusiveness efforts for women and minorities are biased against him & white people.
  • Exaggerated: Will is A Nazi by Any Other Name who believes that there is a worldwide conspiracy to subvert society into oppressing white people.
  • Downplayed: Will is cynical about racial inclusivity, but doesn't go as far as to think it's all done with evil intent.
  • Justified:
    • Will grew up in a racist environment and was taught to believe that other races can only get ahead at the expense of white people.
    • Will does have difficulties getting ahead in life, but misplaces the blame on successful people from other demographics.
    • Will was outdone or upstaged by a woman/minority and generalizes his experience to be true of all society.
    • Will has had bad experiences with social justice warriors, discrimination against white men or some of the more militant left and lacks the positive experiences to balance it out, leading to a one-sided view of minorities.
  • Inverted: Will is a Politically Overcorrect person who thinks anything with an insufficient number of women and minorities is racist.
  • Subverted: Will's complaints are actually benign or well-founded, but are Mistaken for Racist by others.
  • Double Subverted: While some of Will's complaints are benign, others are genuinely motivated by the belief that society has it out for white men.
  • Zig-Zagged: Will has no problem with a new movie casting a black actor for a white character, but retconning a character as gay?! That's too far!
  • Averted:
  • Lampshaded:
  • Invoked:
  • Defied:
    • "Screw skin colors! The only color worth a damn these days is green!"
    • "You're trying to kill me. Skin color and sex have nothing to do with it."
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs:
