While You Are Umasou is a mostly lighthearted adaptation of the Japanese children picture books, it can find ways to unnerve and scare even some adults.

- Heart's nightmare about his carnivorism. He dreams that he can hear his mom calling to him, but he can't find her. He then looks down to see that her calls are coming from inside his stomach. He has eaten her and the rest of his family alive. Understandably, he's pretty shaken when he wakes up.
- While the fight scenes are relatively tame in violence (there’s little blood, no gore and the flesh is stylised like bubblegum), it could potentially frighten younger viewers.
- When Umasou is put in real danger via Baku’s family who injure him and nearly kill him. When Heart hears his screams of terror, he has every right to be terrified!
- Whenever Heart gets genuinely angry, he’s terrifying. He accidentally made Umasou cry because he was both frustrated/ worried for his safety and in the heat of the moment, told him to get lost though he quickly apologised and cheered up Umasou by eating some berries Umasou got him and they reconciled. He destroyed Baku’s family when Umasou was in danger or earlier on when he ate Gonza’s tail defending Light (Heart’s brother), then nearly attacking Light and realising in horror he loved the taste of meat!
- The horrifying possibility that had Heart not run away long before Egg Mountain violently erupted in a massive explosion, he could have died a horrible death like the dinosaurs shown onscreen lying on the ground near the dried up river.
- When Gonza steps in Heart’s way to Egg Mountain and forces him into a duel to the death. Heart, who previously saw his son be directly in Gonza‘s mouth who was trying to kill Umasou and saw a young Gonza trying to kill Heart’s brother Light and goading Heart into doing it, is so pissed off, agrees to just kill him. Heart’s Tranquil Fury and Death Glare are while understandable, genuinely frightening
◊, given how far he’s been pushed over the edge. He kills Gonza with a single strike at the neck before Gonza has a chance to even move. To make things even more disturbing, it’s later revealed Gonza is Heart’s biological brother. - Heart’s mother falling and nearly dying off a cliff had Heart and Light not saved her in time.
- The final battle between Heart and Baku is rather intense. Heart was so close to dying at the end had his mother not reached him in time to talk Baku out of killing the poor boy!
