Nightmare Fuel / Revival

Go To

For the 2018 Stephen King Novel. All spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

  • The car crash that kills the wife and child of Charlie Jacobs, which is so bad it leaves them with immense facial damage. His wife's eye was reportedly dangling over her cheek when they found her, and the worst part was that she didn't die immediately when it happened.
    • "Where is my little boy's face?"
  • Go ahead, get a fancy picture of yourself taken by the nice carny. Enjoy getting driven mad by the power of an Eldritch Abomination.
  • While they attend the revival, Hugh has a panic attack when the "prismatics" are triggered, making him see every other human being as ant monsters. This foreshadows the horrific revelation of how every human soul is herded by those ant monsters to serve the Great Old Ones.
  • There's also Jamie's nightmare, wherein he sees his deceased family members gathered around the dinner table with a rotting birthday cake for him. They all appear as they died (such as Claire having a busted, bloodied skull), and there is a malignant presence behind the scene. This presence turns out to be "Mother", an Eldritch Abomination that has human souls gathered for slavery.
  • In the climax, Jacobs resurrects Mary Fay from the dead, using her as the final experiment to see what lies beyond death. Mary Fay's corpse is possessed by "Mother", revealing herself to be a horrific entity bearing human faces. And then there are the numerous suicides and murders she prompts when Jamie defies her.
  • The ending, which is now widely considered the darkest and most frightening ending Stephen King has ever created, which is really saying something considering his track record. In short, everybody who dies will end up in the Null, enslaved by horrible, ant-like monsters, for all eternity. No death, no light, no rest.
