Humans

     Abdul Alhazred
The Mad Arab, he is the author of the Necronomicon and Patrick Stark's ancestor.
  • Ax-Crazy: Isn't called the Mad Arab for being sane.
  • Killed Off for Real: His soul is destroyed when Patrick unleashes the full power of the Necronomicon.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Was the great-great-grandfather of Patrick Stark.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Despite popular belief, he actually sealed himself into the Necronomicon's pages to achieve pseudo-immortality.

     Patrick Stark
Started out as an ordinary man but when his family was killed before him, he found himself being a slave for one of the Outer Gods. The adoptive father of Mia.

Outer Gods

     Azathoth
The most powerful god of the Mythos. Should he ever awaken, it would spell the end to all existence. The father of the Crawling Chaos Nyarlathotep.
  • Abusive Parents: Nyarlathotep likes to equate him as such.
  • Almighty Idiot: The Blind Idiot God existing outside of our dimension in the very nucleus of our universe; everything is apart of his dream and should he ever awaken, even the slightest fluttering of his eyes would result in The End of the World as We Know It.
  • The Ghost: Mentioned frequently, mostly whenever Nyarlathotep spites him.
  • God Is Evil: Implied to have conceived Nyarlathotep to be his instigator of madness.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Nyarlathotep primarily answers to his father (begrudgingly) and does his bidding.
  • Monster Progenitor: Birthed Nyarlathotep along with other eldritch beings.
  • Primordial Chaos: Predates the universe itself. Though according to Yog-Sothoth, Azathoth wasn't always the Ultimate Chaos and was almost as evil as his son before losing his intellect.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Trapped away in the center of the universe and tended to by lesser beings continually playing demonic tunes from their flutes to keep him asleep.

     Nyarlathotep
The main antagonist of Revival. Unlike the other gods, Nyarlathotep takes an active interest in human affairs and relishes in inflicting suffering upon them. Takes the form of Patrick Stark's daughter Maya Lottie to spite him.
  • Abusive Parents: To Mia because she was his progeny. He tries to force her to inherit his status as the Crawling Chaos by implanting his memories within her to ensure that in the events of his death, his memories would awaken inside of her causing her to replicate his worst crimes.
  • Ax-Crazy: As the self-appointed Crawling Chaos, Nyarlathotep tends to go off the deep end constantly.
  • Bait the Dog: In one of the few moments in King in Yellow, Nyarlathotep seems to take pity on a girl having lost her kitten in a flashback. However, she later drives the girl into walking out into open traffic when her parents enraged her.
  • Berserk Button: He despises being called weak or inferior.
  • Big Bad: Of Revival. He also has a posthumous influence over the events of The King in Yellow.
  • The Bully: What Nyarlathotep truly is at heart. He's nothing more than a narcissistic sociopath who has a high view of himself to cover for the crippling insecurity he suffers. Not fearing him or catering to his ego is enough to make him act like a bratty teenager despite being older than time itself.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Nyarlathotep tries to sell constantly that forces outside of his control made him the way he was. When Lincoln notes that he was evil from the moment he was born, not only does Nyarlathotep not deny it, but he took it with stride.
  • The Chessmaster: Orchestrates the death of Charles the dog to introduce Lana to the Necronomicon.
  • Deader than Dead: All of his avatars are destroyed by the Necronomicon's dark powers.
    • Nyarlathotep "returns" in King in Yellow...technically due to him embedding his memories into Mia. His memory form is destroyed by Mia after Lincoln and his sisters escaped Mia's mind.
  • Deal with the Devil: Stole the souls of Lola and Leni and used them as hostage to convince the Loud family to give him the Necronomicon. He also made a deal with Lincoln falsely promising to call off the gods' invasion if he got his sisters' souls back.
  • The Devil Is a Loser: No one gives Nyarlathotep any respect. Even if he has followers, it's really because he's using hypnotism on them to force them to do whatever he wants.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Nyarlathotep can be extremely petty. The ice cream man refuses to give him ice cream because he didn't have money? He morphs into his Dark Man form and grisly kills him. The parents of the kids that follow him are upset that they were past the time they were supposed to be home? Nyarlathotep takes the kitten he resurrected and sics him on the parents to maul them and then to add insult to injury hypnotizes their children into walking out into traffic.
  • Fantastic Racism: Aside from taking sadistic pleasure from the suffering he inflicts on them, Nyarlathotep has a very low opinion on human beings. But it also extends to all life in the universe.
  • For the Evulz: Several of the actions Nyarlathotep takes don't take him closer to his goal, but he does them anyway because it's fun.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Tries to claim that he became the way he is because he was enraged at being birthed with no name or identity. However, Patrick calls him out on how pathetic of an excuse it is.
  • Gender Bender: While he still shifts into his most classic forms, he primarily appears on the form of Patrick's daughter.
  • Hate Sink: Maya Lottie, in truth, Nyarlathotep, orchestrates the events of the fanfic by giving Lana the Necronomicon after she compelled Charles into walking into the way of a passing car. She was also responsible for the deaths of Patrick Stark's family, taking the form of his older daughter out of mockery, and enslaves him. She then steals the souls of Leni and Lola and despite agreeing to free them if she were given the Necronomicon, Maya tosses the souls of the girls into a rip in space-time anyway.
  • Historical Rapsheet: He was behind many atrocities in human history such as slavery; genocide; the world wars, etc. Or at the least he was the instigator of them.
  • Hope Crusher: Nyarlathotep laughs off hope as being an empty desire and that despair was a universal feeling encompassing all others. As such, Nyarlathotep decided that it would be his eternal mission to bring despair to all life.
  • It's All About Me: Nyarlathotep is a narcissistic being who views himself as being above all mortal life and even higher than his father.
  • Karmic Death: Two-fold:
    • After an onslaught of abuse he dished out on Patrick, Patrick masters the Necronomicon and vaporizes him.
    • His daughter Mia evicts his memory form/shadow from her mind and physically destroys it.
  • Kick the Dog: Frequently. While his ultimate goal is to release the pantheon onto the world, he finds joy in committing acts of evil despite having nothing to gain from it.
  • Lack of Empathy: Cares only for himself and satiating his boredom. But much like other sociopaths, there are times where he fakes sympathy to ensnare his victims.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Wants to give the Earth its final curtain call by freeing all of the cosmic gods. Especially when it came to his father.
  • Posthumous Character: In King in Yellow. Nyarlathotep is revealed to be the one who engineered Cthulhu's resurrection scheme if Cthulhu were to be killed.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He acts like a bored teenager both in and out of his Maya Lottie persona. He especially loves games.
    • He explains in King in Yellow that he became the way he was because of getting thrilled at seeing a murder being committed thousands of years ago and since, like a child, wanted to replicate it.
  • Sadist: Is one of the few Lovecraftian gods that are aware of humanity and exerts their powers on them of their own volition.
  • Satanic Archetype: He makes deals and has an obsession with fire.
  • Serial Killer: King in Yellow shows that Nyarlathotep killed others randomly during the time that he kept Patrick imprisoned.
  • The Sociopath: Manipulative; carries a superficial charm; utterly lacks any definition of empathy.
  • Time Abyss: Was old enough to remember an early descendant of man committing the first murder.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Lincoln wins the game of collecting his sisters' souls, he utterly loses it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can freely transform into whoever or whatever he wants.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Ate Patrick's children and unleashed his entire army onto Royal Woods which slaughtered presumably thousands of children. That's not even getting to unleashing the apocalypse around the world.

     Mia Stark
Patrick Stark's adopted daughter. The spawn of Nyarlathotep.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Nyarlathotep specifically sires her as a means of continuing his reign of chaos should he ever be killed.
  • Humanoid Abomination: She looks relatively human-like in appearance, she nevertheless is directly the progeny of Nyarlathotep. Patrick also notes that she grew quicker in comparison to her age range. According to Yog-Sothoth, Mia was the result of a union between Nyarlathotep and an old crone. That wouldn't be the first time that an Outer God had sired a child with a human.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves to eat forks.

     Shub-Niggurath
Fertility goddess.
  • Foil: To Eihort. Both are maternal beings but while the former truly cares for their offspring, the latter uses their offspring as cannon fodder.
  • Mama Bear: Becomes very enraged if harm came to her Dark Young.

     Yog-Sothoth
The Keeper of the Gate. Past, present, future, nothing gets past Yog-Sothoth.
  • Abusive Parents: Adopts a reincarnated Cthulhu and subjects him to severe Training from Hell with shoggoths.
    • They are also the biological father of Wilbur Whateley and the Dunwich Horror from the book of the same name. They even admit to eating their children if they failed them.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Blue-and-Orange Morality isn't in play with Yog-Sothoth; he/she does understand to an extent that their actions are inexcusable but does them anyway to advance his/her goal of destroying mankind and reclaiming the world for the gods.
  • Adaptational Wimp: As his true form is still locked out of our reality, only a fracture of it can exist in our world. While still more powerful than humans naturally, other Earth-bound Outer Gods can serve as a competitor due to Yog-Sothoth's physical avatars being weaker.
  • Bait the Dog: He seemingly comforts a young Cthulhu after he had healed up from his recent round with the shoggoths...only to then push him back into their direction.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Hastur in King in Yellow.
  • Cessation of Existence: His main use of attack. Because of his infinite power over space-time, he can erase people from existence demonstrated when he tried to do the same to the Loud siblings and Patrick.
  • Cyclops: In his humanoid form, he manifests as a black-haired woman with one eye.
  • Enemy Mine: Teams up with the Loud family to take down Hastur.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Is very talkative and approachable when he/she/it teams up with the Louds to defeat Hastur, but is truly out for themselves.
  • Gender Bender: Takes the form of a woman in King in Yellow.
  • Hate Sink: Yog-Sothoth, after trying to continue where Nyarlathotep left off, takes a reborn Cthulhu and subjects him to harsh training to prepare him for his fight against his half-brother Hastur. When Hastur arrives in Royal Woods, Yog-Sothoth teams up with the Loud family to take Hastur down but once he was dealt with, Yog-Sothoth tries to force Cthulhu to kill them. Yog-Sothoth also ordered Cthulhu to kill multiple Deep Ones by claiming them to be traitors all while keeping it a secret that the first one was the culprit.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Much like Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth has several avatars. While normally represented with tendrils or spheres containing multiple eyes, he appears as a tall, black-haired woman in King in Yellow.
  • It Amused Me: Due to his infinite knowledge over space-time, Yog-Sothoth actually knew who was the traitor, but thought that the tragedy could be used to his advantage. However, he is still not as pointlessly malevolent as Nyarlathotep can attest to.
  • Kangaroo Court: Sets one up to burn out the traitor; some of the Deep Ones fake confessions about their affiliation with Hastur but they are nevertheless executed via Young Cthulhu.
  • Karmic Death: Downplayed since Yog-Sothoth is the All-In-One, space and time itself given form. After trying to turn Cthulhu against the Loud kids, he rebels and helps Mia shatter her physical form ironically into seven pieces that disappear into the timestream.
  • Kick the Dog: As part of his horrific training, Yog-Sothoth allows shoggoths to tear Young Cthulhu apart over and over until he adapted to it. He also forces him to kill several of the Deep Ones meant to guard him.
  • Lack of Empathy: Towards mortals, but also extends to his kin. When he adopts the resurrected Cthulhu, he thinks nothing to subjecting him to excruciating pain.
  • The Omniscient: Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. Yog-Sothoth is even space-time itself. In King of Yellow, they reveal several nuggets of information such as the true nature of Azathoth and Mia's lineage.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Appears at the end of Revival to continue what Nyarlathotep started only to fail. Does try again in small portions in the sequel story.
  • The Sociopath: While more logical and emotionless, Yog-Sothoth lacks remorse for his actions and in the sequel subjects a young Cthulhu to torturous training and mutilation to use him as a weapon against Hastur. While he has a brief moment where he felt compassion for his adopted son, he nevertheless quashes that feeling by putting Cthulhu in the path of Shoggoths.
  • The Stoic: Coldly logical and never expressing much emotion. Even when he tries to kill the Loud kids, it's more out of preventing them from foiling the gods' plans rather than outright hatred for them.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Like Nyarlathotep, he can change forms but is limited in number.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Tries to erase Lincoln and his sisters from existence in their first encounter. Later subjects a reincarnated Cthulhu to extreme training.
  • You Killed My Mother: Yog-Sothoth kills Cthylla to pass her off to Hastur as being his half-brother.

Great Old Ones

     Cthylla
The daughter of Cthulhu who was initially heavily protected by the Deep Ones for if Cthulhu was ever truly destroyed, Cthylla would give birth to him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Is murdered by Yog-Sothoth so that Hastur would be fooled into believing that his half-brother was dead.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Was murdered by Yog-Sothoth not too soon after giving birth to Cthulhu.

     Cthulhu
The Great Dreamer of R'lyeh who serves the Outer Gods, namely Nyarlathotep.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: To an extent. Cthulhu is slightly more aware that his actions can be borderline "evil," but views them as being necessary in the name of world conquest. And he does express irritation towards Nyarlathotep senselessly sending out the pantheon to conquer the world and withholding information that mankind had become more advanced technologically and can potentially be deadly to Great Old Ones now.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Cthyalla was created as a way for Cthulhu to return to life if his original body was destroyed.
  • Eaten Alive: Gets devoured by a vengeful Shub-Niggurath.
  • High Priest: Of the Great Old Ones.
  • Nothing Personal: Tells the Loud sisters that he took no pleasure in having to eliminate them on his boss's orders.
  • Only Sane Man: He gets angered with Nyarlathotep for his indifference towards the other gods of the pantheon falling to mankind's modern weaponry.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He was initially imprisoned in the sunken city of R'lyeh until Nyarlathotep initiates the apocalypse.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Is ordered by Nyarlathotep to kill Lincoln's siblings when he realized that Lincoln was going to win.

Young Cthulhu

Despite his death, Cthulhu reincarnates in part due to his daughter, Cthylla. After her death, he was adopted and placed under strict training by Yog-Sothoth.
  • Adaptational Heroism: As a reincarnation of the original Cthulhu, he leans more towards being benign with his actions. He does whatever Yog-Sothoth demands of him despite personal convictions.
  • Break the Cutie: He gets put in relentlessly cruel training and is even forced to kill his guardians by Yog-Sothoth.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Rebels against Yog-Sothoth before returning to his sunken city of R'lyeh in peace.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Of his own volition, Cthulhu opts to return to his sunken city of R'lyeh with no indication that he'd damn the human race.
  • Tragic Monster: Was put through systematic abuse by Yog-Sothoth who also killed his daughter/birth mother for good measure.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: He turns against Yog-Sothoth when he tries to have him kill the Loud kids.

     Eihort
A spider-like being who dwells in a labyrinth scoping the world. Forces those he encounters to accept its brood or be killed.
  • Abusive Parents: Eihort admits to seeing his children as nothing more than cannon fodder and is apathetic at their deaths.
  • Foil: Unlike Shub-Niggurath who loves her offspring, Eihort sees his as cannon fodder.
  • Morton's Fork: Much like in Campbell's rendition of the Mythos, Eihort wagers with its victim to either accept its brood or be killed. Even if they accept the brood, they are nevertheless killed when they emerge.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Was trapped in a world-spanning labyrinth underneath the Severn Valley until Nyarlathotep freed him.
  • Spiders Are Scary: Resembles a large spider.

     Hastur
Half-brother of Cthulhu who somehow escaped his death. He often appears as a tentacled humanoid wearing a yellow cloak.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Much like the case with Yog-Sothoth and Cthulhu (to a lesser degree), Blue-and-Orange Morality is not an issue. He is a ruthless, power-hungry Humanoid Abomination who is able to understand humans all too well. In addition, he makes it a constant to incite fear to any who oppose him.
  • Ambition Is Evil:
    • Wants to rule over the Earth as he believes it was his birthright and then the entire universe for good measure.
    • Later, he desires to summon the Outer Gods to Earth so he could devour them and become the most powerful being in existence.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Cthulhu
  • Ax-Crazy: Angrily strangles a servant to death for giving him bad news. And then sets him on fire.
  • Bad Boss: Violently strangles and sets one of his minions on fire. He seems to be merciful to another minion listening to his grievances, but kills him by injecting him with yellow tumors.
  • Berserk Button:
    • He has a weird fixation to his mask so much so, that if it sustained sufficient damage, he utterly loses it as evidenced by him massacring an entire room of his followers. Dr. Moist speculates that the mask may keep some of his sanity in tact.
    • Mentioning Cthulhu's name in his presence. When Lisa accidentally says it, Hastur goes on a wild rampage that nearly causes the mall he situated his base at to collapse. It also resulted in the deaths of dozens of his minions.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Of King in Yellow alongside Yog-Sothoth.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Dies when Cthulhu lifts up a flap of skin in the back of his head and then flipping it over. Much like how octopuses are killed in real life.
  • Deal with the Devil: Makes a deal with Dr. Moist so he could use him to take over the Earth.
  • Demonic Possession: Whenever he corrupts people with his symbol, they are tethered to him.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Hastur is very short-tempered and quickly acts on impulse when things don't go his way.
  • Half-Sibling Angst: With his half-brother Cthulhu. Both possessed a seething hatred for the other.
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: Hastur enjoys filling his victims with fear and despair often reminiscing on the great casualties he caused.
  • Malevolent Masked Man: Wears a palette mask that hides his true face that being multiple mandibles and eyes.
  • The Resenter: He loathes Cthulhu with every fiber of his being and wishes to kill him constantly.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Was imprisoned in his home planet Carcosa. When he was temporarily freed to wreak havoc on the Earth, he tried to kill his brother before getting resealed.
  • The Sociopath: He's murderously insane and has such a high opinion of himself.
  • Take Over the World: His end goal. He aspires to transform mankind into bloated abominations to lord over.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He initially tried to kill Cthulhu the moment Cthylla birthed him.

Elder Gods

Species

     The Deep Ones
Amphibious humanoids who were descended from Father Dagon. As part of Cthulhu's resurrection scheme, they protect Cthylla at all cost.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Cthulhu and his offspring. The loyalty also applied to Father Dagon before he was killed in the attempted take over.

     Eihort's Brood
Eihort's offspring born when they are incubated inside of human hosts as part of Eihort's ultimatum.

     The Elder Things
The first extraterrestrial species that had colonized the Earth. They are also the creators of the Shoggoths.
  • Ancient Astronauts: Arrived to Earth eons ago and somehow seeded life whether deliberate or unintentional it's not clear.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: One of the most complex of the Lovecraftian creatures.
  • Pride: Dr. Moist states that part of them continually recreating shoggoths despite them rebelling frequently has to do with their belief that by seeding new Elder Things, it would give the next generation the ability to perfect shoggoths as a perfect servant race.
  • Starfish Aliens: Six feet, barrel-shaped extraterrestrials with starfish-like appendages such as five eyes, five feeding tubes, etc.

     Nightgaunts
Winged creatures that serve the Elder Gods.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrive to the mall to save Lincoln and the others from the Unspeakable Possessors.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Some rescued Clyde and his dads when Maya launched her hordes of Eihort's breed on Royal Woods.

     The Shoggoths
Gelatinous blobs that were initially made to serve the Elder Things before gaining sapience and rebelling. A few are used by Yog-Sothoth to train the Young Cthulhu in his future fight with his half-brother Hastur.
  • Blob Monster: They are aggressive, gelatinous creatures that often shift into whatever form is needed at the time.
  • Extra Eyes: Continually absorb and create eyes to see.
  • Slave Race: They were originally created by the Elder Beings before turning against them.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The shoggoths had waged war on the Elder Things numerous times.

     The Unspeakable Possessors
Bloated, humanoid beings with jaw-like appendages on their fingers and boneless, fluid-filled limbs. They are created when they observe the Yellow Sign and serve Hastur.
  • Adaptational Villainy: They are created through gazing at the Yellow Sign which subsequently brainwashes and makes them susceptible to being possessed by Hastur.
  • And I Must Scream: Many humans who were transformed know that there is something wrong with them but are unable to do anything about it.
  • Fat Bastard: Bloated, scaly abominations that act on their blind fury.
  • Tragic Monster: Were former humans that were transformed. They retain their former memories as humans, but they are unable to fight against their master.
  • Was Once a Man: They were created when humans looked at Hastur's Yellow Sign and subconsciously accepted his Unspeakable Oath which left them susceptible to getting possessed by his demonic magic.

Others

     Dr. Moist
A scientist of sorts whose helping Hastur achieve his goal of world domination.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: When he accidentally confesses to be working for Hastur, he is punished by having his tongue expand and wrap around his throat until his neck snapped.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Lisa Loud. While they both perform unethical experiments (borderline in Lisa's case), Lisa cares for her family and finds Moist's actions repulsive, Dr. Moist doesn't value family and finds his experiments logical.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses and utter lacks concern for human life.
  • Genuine Human Hide: He killed a human and now uses his skin to hide his real form.
  • Hate Sink: Dr. Moist is an Elder Thing wearing a human skin suit who is obsessed with science. When his suggestion to make Super-Soldier Elder Things to combat the Shoggoths fell through, he creates a genetic bomb and destroys his own race with it to harvest the genetic makeup for his own ends. He manipulates humans into taking the serum painfully transforming and dispatching them if they were failures. When approached by Hastur, Dr. Moist kidnaps Lisa Loud and threatens to experiment on her for hundreds of years for her lack of compliance.
  • Hypocrite: Derides the Elder Things as being arrogant for continually creating the shoggoths while he himself destroyed the Elder Things' society so he could create a better species.
  • Lack of Empathy:
    • Discards his failed guinea pigs into a room where there are dozens of bodies stashed away.
    • Saw nothing wrong with wiping out the Elder Things when he was denied his proposal against the shoggoths.
  • Last of His Kind: He is the only Elder Thing remaining, but that was precisely because he was the one who caused their extinction.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: He experiments on people for various reasons under the claim that he'd cure them of their ailments.
  • The Reveal: Dr. Moist is actually an Elder Thing who is experimenting on other species with Elder Thing spores and chemical makeup to create an army of Super Soldiers.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Explicitly states that he had a family of his own that were destroyed by the genetic bomb though Elder Things had units that were not the most "normal" as compared to humans.
  • The Sociopath: Outright refutes human emotions and compassion as weaknesses and thinks nothing of experimenting on humans or other races like the Deep Ones For Science!.
  • Where I Was Born and Razed: Destroyed his own civilization when his proposals were rejected by the council.
