Mythology Gag / Adventures of Supergirl

Go To

  • Rampage was originally a Superman villain created after the 1986 reboot (ironically, by a writer who hated Supergirl), whom Supergirl met and fought in the 1990s.
  • As she is being pummeled by Rampage, Supergirl ponders "My life's not always like this", a shout-out to Sterling Gates' Supergirl (2005) run, where Supergirl often said "I am Supergirl. This is my life" as she was fighting a super-villain.
  • When she attended Midvale High, Kara was bothered by a bully called Belinda. Belinda Zee was Kara's nemesis in Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade.
  • In the first print issue, Kara mentions the "Rokyn Society's Gravitistics". Rokyn was a planet settled by Kryptonian survivors, seen in stories like Let My People Grow! and The Krypton Chronicles.
  • Igle, one of the D.E.O. troopers, is named after artist Jamal Igle, who worked together with Sterling Gates during his Supergirl (2005) run.
  • David's and Frank's streets are named after Peter David and Gary Frank, two creators who have worked on Supergirl.
  • Winn's internet handle is "Supergirl_in_action_252". Action Comics #252: The Supergirl From Krypton (1959) was Supergirl's first appearance. Winn's secondary handle "Dollm8ker" references Supergirl story arc Day of the Dollmaker, featuring a villain who is, like Winn, Toyman's son.
  • Supergirl's statement regarding Jimmy Olsen being turned into a giant turtle is a reference to Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #53.
  • During one nightmare, Supergirl is fighting the Knight Wolves of Nightflame, a Supergirl villain who showed up in Adventure Comics #421: Demon Spawn''.
  • In another nightmare, Kara is wearing her Post-Crisis costume and fighting alongside Superman in some place called New Krypton.
  • In another dream, she is wearing a Red Lantern costume, a nod to Red Daughter of Krypton.
  • As she fights Nightflame's hordes, Supergirl wears the same Kryptonian armor that she wore in Crucible.
  • As she's fighting Psi's nightmares, Supergirl fights her DC Animated Universe incarnation.
  • The names of Kupperberg and Infantino, Supergirl (1982)'s creative team, can be read on the spines of two books resting on Kara's nightstand.
  • Zal-Tel is named after a Kryptonian artist who mentored Zor-El and his daughter in the Supergirl (2005) series (who, in turn, was based on a character of Supergirl (1984)).
  • Several nods to the Pre-Crisis Superman lore explored in ''The Krypton Chronicles: "Tanth" is an honorific, and babootches and thought-beasts are Kryptonian animals.
  • Kara's apartment building is named after Post-Crisis Kara and Lana Lang's apartment: Hammersmith Tower.
  • The name "Tarukor" is a reference to Torquasm Rao, an ancient Kryptonian meditation technique in the mainstream comics.
  • Magin, the first Kryptonian prison, is named after Superman writer Elliot S! Maggin.
  • Molium Brid-Well is a double reference to the Pre-Crisis Superman mythos. The Drygur Moliom was the head of the Planetary Science Council, and E. Nelson Bridwell was one Superman's writer, editor and continuity expert.
