Worthy Of Your Heart
is an Amphibia fanfiction written by justburnitwithfire and the second of his Passing Place for the Soul series. The Fic is a sequel to his previous work, Between the Beats and acts an alternate version of the second half of Season 3 following more closely to what was set out in the previous work.
Worthy Of Your Heart contains examples of:
- Adaptation Deviation: While the first chapter falls under AdaptationExpansion, the rest of the fic is this trope, following on the basic ideas of canon episodes, but altering them in various ways.
- Adaptation Expansion: The first chapter provides some further scenes that take place adjacent to or in between scenes from the episode Commander Anne.
- The Big Damn Kiss: Sasha and Anne get theirs right after they get back from the mission to find the Olms
- Cool Sword: Anne eventually ends up getting a sword with a hilt themed after the first monster she fought in Amphibia, a mantis, and coloured like her calamity gem, very similar to Sasha's own pink heron sword.
- Crush Blush: Sasha starts experiencing this now that Anne is back.
- Death by Adaptation: Some apply here.
- Bufo is killed off by Sasha when in her Calamity form in chapter 12.
- While canon shows Sylvia to still be alive after the events of the war, here she is killed off by Andrias in chapter 14.
- Declining Promotion: Grime ends up turning down a promotion to be the third co-commander as he is aware that he and Anne will not work well together
- Desk Sweep of Rage: Sasha ends up doing this during her and Anne's argument in chapter 3.
- Drowning My Sorrows: Sasha finally succumbs to the temptation to do this after finding out that Grime, Wally and his father were captured during a mission.
- Easily Forgiven: Mostly averted. Anne is ready to give Sasha another chance to prove that she has changed and can be trusted but isn't ready to go back to being friends yet. Hop Pop is also ready to forgive Sasha for what she's done after finding out she saved and took care of Bessie, but he makes it clear it's going to take some time to trust her.
- Eye Colour Change: As per usual, Anne's eyes change when she uses her calamity powers. Sasha also experiences this at the end of chapter 5, revealing that she has somehow gotten some of her power back.
- Fantastic Racism: On full display from the Wartwood residents to the other species of Amphibia with Chapter 6 revealing that there are even a few who still feel this way towards Anne and Sasha for being human.
- Landslide Election: When Sasha's leadership is put into question by Buck, Wartwood (specifically, only the original Wartwood residents) votes on which of them they want as a leader. Sasha wins 88 to 4.
- Nightmare Sequence: Sasha begins to have these again.
- Sibling Rivalry: Grime and Beatrix's is on full display whenever they appear together or one mentions the other in conversation.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Anne and Grime are paired up to run a mission to gather some fuel for New Wartwood, right at a time when Grime is angry that Sasha is slipping back into some of her self-destructive habits due to her emotional turmoil over Anne's return. This results in the two having a difficult time working together.
- Tempting Fate: Just after completing her team's mission to take down the forcefield, Sasha notes that she hopes things are going as well for Anne and Grime on their mission. The story then immediately cuts to their mission, where things do not go well due to Grime's poor attitude which ultimately results in Anne's arm getting seriously messed up by one of Andrias's robots
- Unspoken Plan Guarantee: completely averted for the plan to rescue Grime, Wally and his father, which is explained to us in full and succeeds with no complications.
- Wham Line: The last two lines of chapter 5.When Anne opened her eyes to find Sasha staring back at her, she panicked. Something wasn't right with her friend.Sasha's eyes were glowing bright pink.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Anne towards Sasha when calling her out for taking Polly on a dangerous mission with her (with Anne unaware that Polly all but forced Sasha to come along with her). Sasha then returns the favor later in the chapter when Anne suggests that Sasha needs to learn to make tough decisions to keep her people safe, Sasha snaps at Anne, reminding her that she's been gone for 3 months and has no idea what Sasha has had to do and has had to put herself through in order to keep the frogs of Wartwood safe.
