- Adaptation Deviation: In-Universe. Not only did Older!Hiccup/Horrendous post-pone the date when he faces the Red Death, but his influence on the past changed things so much that Young!Hiccup did not lose his leg in his battle with the Red Death.
- Atrocious Alias: As both a means of hiding his identity and to prevent confusion for the reader, the older Hiccup from the future goes by his middle name "Horrendous."
- The Cameo: In Chapter 24, The Man in the Moon and E. Aster Bunnymund from The Guardians of Childhood and Rise of the Guardians make an appearance, noticing strange bursts of magic induced by Hiccup's travels through time.
- Tangled Family Tree: Until he can find a way back to his own time, Stoick offers "Horrendous" the chance to be adopted as "Hiccup's older brother" to prevent suspicion from visitors.
