FFN Summary

The Reapers Summer is a RWBY and Mass Effect crossover written by Helljumper206.

Summer Rose would go missing on a mission and leave behind a grieving family. Never to return again. She would be assumed dead for a long eleven years.

Yet part way into the semester of RWBY, a mysterious electrical storm hits Remnant and forces a complete restart for the Kingdom's electrical system. And during the crisis, the still alive, though heavily injured, body of Summer Rose would be recovered.

Summer Rose, through mysterious circumstances, ended up off-world and during the Pirate attack on Elysium where she loses most of her memories of Remnant. Yet acting on instinct, she chooses to aid the Human Systems Alliance defend the colony, before taking the name Shepard and enlisting. Eventually becoming the First Human Spectre, saviour of the galaxy, and the one to activate the Crucible.

Now she has returned to Remnant, reunited with her family, regained most of her memories, and ready to take on the next great threats.

Tropes

  • Adaptational Badass: Summer Rose was known to be an elite huntress with the Silver Eye powers in canon. Here, she is Summer Shepard: Badass Human Spectre with both Mass Effect technology, Biotics, and decades of experience fighting the galaxy's worst foes alongside her aura and silver eyes.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Raven. In canon, she coldly disregards Summer passing when speaking to team RWBY and has little interest in her own family. In this story when Raven visits Summer, she shows a more pleasant side as we learn that she spent the time after Summer's disappearance looking for the Elder Rose's body and even holding onto both the remains of her old weapon and Summer's old cloak. It also inferred that Summer helped Raven out in achieving the Maiden powers.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Ironwood. While in CRWBY's first three volumes, his actions are quite well justified and he listens to Ozpin, here he is both antagonistic to Summer and attempts to arrest her. However, its Justified as Summer conveniently arrived back on Remnant at the same time as the Electrical storm caused by the Crucible, Summer has be gone for over a decade and know knows what has happened to her, and Summer did technically destroy the Atlas robot force and Penny with the Crucible.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Once she has fully recovered, Summer takes on a job as a Professor in Beacon Academy to both get closer to her daughters and relearn her skills as a huntress.
  • Adapted Out: Penny has been adapted out and has yet to make an appearance due to the Crucible Energy Wave destroying all Artificial Intelligence in the Galaxy, including Penny.
  • Alliterative Name: When she enlists in the Systems Alliance, Summer takes on the last name of Shepard; becoming Summer Shepard.
  • Bullying the Dragon: Ironwood has his forces attempt to arrest Summer on lands that belong to Beacon. Not only is he conducting an illegal military operation without approval from the host government, but his forces are also fighting Summer Shepard Rose; the same Shepard who was the biggest threat to the Reapers during the current cycle, got the Krogan and Turians to fight alongside each other, fought and defeated Saran (a highly trained Turian Spectre), survived getting attacked by multiple skyscraper-sized Reapers, died and came back to life, has access to Mass Effect technology, fought and destroyed the Collectors, more, has biotic space powers, and having over a decade of combat experience fighting the worst baddies of the galaxy. Needless to say, it goes poorly for Atlas.
  • Composite Character: Summer is both the Rose of the Rose-Xiao Long family and the Shepard as the First Human Spectre.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Summer, in her first ever class, has to deal with a student named Troy who made racist comments against the Faunus students. Summer punishes Troy by him hold out his weapon (a heavy battle axe/shotgun combo) stretched out and in a crouching position... for an hour. Hold a heavy battle axe, while coaching, with their arms stretched for the remainder of class (an hour), and not allowed to drop said axe for a rest.
  • Curbstomp Battle:
    • The Atlas military endures on behalf of Summer. Despite bringing overwhelming numbers and the Ace-Ops team, Summer, both an experienced Huntress and the First Human Spectre, easily crushes the Atlasians. To the point she decides to troll them with terrifying-sounding music.
    • Weiss and Yang, both of whom end up sparring with Summer, get demolished quite quickly fighting the Human Spectre.
  • Dead Fic: Last update was in May 21, 2021.
  • Flat "What": The reaction from both Tai and Qrow when they learn that Summer is an Alliance military officer and an N-7, the equivalent to the Atlas Specialists.
  • For Wantof A Nail:
    • Due to Ironwood's actions and attempts to arrest Summer, the Atlas military gets booted out of Vale.
    • Due to both the expulsion of Atlas forces from Vale and the destruction of the Atlas Robotic force, Cinder's plan to hijack Atlas robots for the Fall of Beacon and acquire additional munitions for the White Fang becomes unworkable.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While General Ironwood's attempt to arrest Summer was a move that was illegal and resulted in the Atlas Fleet being booted out of Vale, Summer internally notes that she did technically destroy much of the Atlasian robot force and thus had an actually good reason to arrest her.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Summer has this reaction in chapter 9 when she realizes that due to her actions, EDI has likely been destroyed due to the Crucible.
    • Team RWBY has this reaction when Summer reveals herself to be overhearing their conversation about continuing investigations into the White Fang.
    • Summer has this reaction again when Ironwood's forces attempt to arrest her and they technically have a valid reason to do so.
  • Sword and Gun: Summer uses a combination of both Iron Thorne, a Claymore Sniper Rifle combo, along aside an Alliance Lancer Assualt Rifle and a Carnifex pistol in combat. It proves very effective against Atlasian troops.
