- Chekhov's Skill: After Hakuba put the pieces together and figured out there was Government Conspiracy, he knew he needed to figure out who he could and couldn't trust. Add
Paranoia Fuel to the mix and you finally get Hakuba relenting and asking Kuroba a favor in teaching him lockpicking. Which he agrees to and also teaches him multitude of other useful skills like how to move quietly, blend into a crowd, and create a distraction at just the right moment. Additionally, Hakuba teached himself how to wiretap and hack into networks so he could put these skills to good use and uncover who was working for the Black Organization. - Demolitions Expert: Both Heiji and Shinichi end up being one of these unexpectingly. Heiji knows exactly how to make a homemade bomb.
Word of God said his father made him watch a sit in on bomb squad practice as a kid to try and plant caution in him. (Didn't work obviously but A+ for effort). Shinichi, on the other hand, took care of the electric part of the explosive because setting up a timer is like detonating a bomb only in reverse. Planting and setting off bombs is their strategy in taking down the Black Organization. - Disguised in Drag: Both Conan and Heiji are forced to crossdress when they become wanted as terrorists. As Heiji pointed out to a less then happy Conan two half-sisters on a family bonding trip is far less suspicious when they're looking for a teenage boy with a little kid that doesn’t look related to him.
- Exhausted Eye Bags: Hakuba gets these after figuring out there was a Government Conspiracy and gets a good dose of Paranoia Fuel along with it. It's clear it how stressed he was not sure who he could and couldn't trust and that hasn't helped his sleeping schedule whatsoever. On the plus side, after he resorted to wiretapping and breaking into officers lockers to see if they worked for the Black Organization, he eased up a bit and got better.
- Government Conspiracy: The whole point of conflict in this fic is the Black Organization being too entrenched in the government that taking them down would be impossible legally.
- Mentor Archetype:
- Yukiko taught Heiji and Conan disguises, driving, and how to blend into the crowd so they wouldn't get caught while they're on the run.
- Kuroba is one for Hakuba temporarily when Hakuba asked him to teach him lockpicking. He does along with other skills like how to move quietly, blend into the crowd, and creating a distraction at just the right moment.
- Strapped to an Operating Table: When the Black Organization found out Shinichi was actually Conan, they were fascinated and wanted to know how he de-aged. Unfortunately, Conan was kidnapped and experimented on for a month untill Heiji managed to bust him out of there. Thankfully, while he does remember some of what happened, he never actually felt anything because they pumped him full of drugs to keep him numb and incoherent enough to actually think properly.
