Beetlejuice has spent his whole (after)life being a duplicitous con artist maiming and conning recently deceased humans for kicks. But can he find a new path forward at a certain hotel set up by Hell’s heir?
‘’Beetlejuice Checks In’’ contains the following tropes:
- Conditioned to Accept Horror: Beetlejuice is surrounded by blood and gore but doesn’t let it distract him from reading his newspaper.
- The Dreaded: Beetlejuice is a figure of horror for the denizens of Hell, with a pig demon being spooked when he finds himself in the presence of the malcontent.
- Establishing Character Moment: Beetlejuice is introduced not being bothered by the blood and guts of Hell, and gleefully and cheerfully “rewarding” a pig demon for knowing his name by sending a vicious rat after him.
- Storybook Opening: The fic opens with the canon narration of Hell’s origins.
