Created by AdrenalineRush1996 (Ben 10: Plumbers of Bellwood and Power Rangers RPM: Gamma Beta), ThunderCats: The Return
is a Fan Sequel to the 2011 reboot of the Eighties classic Thunder Cats. It also incorporates elements of the scrapped second season for the reboot.
This fic has examples of the following tropes:
- The Atoner / My God, What Have I Done? / Heel–Face Turn: Pumyra in the end of the first arc.
- Ears as Hair: Played straight with Wilykat but averted with his sister Wilykit, who, unlike her mother, has her ears depicted in one episode when her hair is down.
- Last of His Kind: Averted. In fact, part of the Tiger Clan left their hometown before the plague in "Native Son", hence why Bengali wasn't one of the casualities in the plague.
- Lighter and Softer: When compared to the original season 2 plans.
- Mythology Gag: The ancient Thunderians in one story resemble the Thunderians from the 1985 original.
- Lynxana (who originated in the Marvel comic book adaptation of the series) appears as one of the Thunderians attending Lion-O's coronation.
- Named by the Adaptation: Lion-O's mother, who is also Tygra's adoptive mother and had No Name Given in the reboot is confirmed to be named Leona.
- Official Couple: In the end, Lion-O and Cheetara.
- Related in the Adaptation: Jagara and Jaga are daughter and father in this version. In the original, despite their similar names, they were unrelated.
- Tygra and Bengali are maternal cousins in this version. In the original season 2 plans, he was Tygra and Cheetara's son.
- Retcon: Leona's Death by Childbirth in the flashback for "Native Son" is retconned into a Gender Flip version of Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You as explained in a letter written by her after giving birth to Lion-O. Suffice to say that, Lion-O never knew the truth that his mother is alive and well until after his father's death.
- Ship Sinking: Tygra and Cheetara
- Spared by the Adaptation: Pumyra survives, while in the original plans for season 2, she gets killed by Tygra.
