Thomas R. “Tom” Perrotta (born August 13, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American novelist. He comes from an Italian-Catholic background, which is reflected in some of his works. He has cited O. Henry, J. R. R. Tolkien, and John Irving as formative examples.

Perrotta’s work has been adapted into three films—Election, the little seen Bad Haircut, and Little Children—and two television series—The Leftovers and Mrs Fletcher. He was involved in the latter two as writer and producer.
