Two-Gun Kid is a 1948 Western comic, initially published by Timely Comics and later by their successors Marvel Comics.

Set in the old west, it stars the titular masked gunfighter.

The first version of the character is Clay Harder, who features in issues #1-59.

The second Two-Gun Kid, debuting in issue #60, is actually Matt Hawk, a lawyer who travelled out from the east and was secretly trained to shoot, fight and track by elderly gunfighter Ben Dancer.

After the switch to Hawk as protagonist, the previous Clay Harder issues are treated as an in-universe story that inspired him to take the name.

Two-Gun Kid provides example of:

  • Anthology Comic: A typical issue includes several shorter stories, potentially including text stories and standalone stories about other Western characters.
  • Disney Villain Death: When they fight in a cave, Jace Ringo tries to bludgeon the Two-Gun Kid to death with a small boulder, only to overbalance and fall into a deep shaft. Watching him fall, the Kid notes that nothing can save Ringo now.
  • Fakeout Escape: After he's captured by Ringo's Raiders, the Kid changes back to his civilian identity, Matt Hawk. Hawk was Ringo's defence lawyer, and he's able to convince the raiders that the Kid's tricked them all, and has already escaped.
  • Likes Clark Kent, Hates Superman: Nancy Carter considers Matt Hawk a close friend, but wrongly blames the Two-Gun Kid for the murder of her step-brother Clem.
  • Put on a Bus: After training Matt, Ben Dancer takes a coach east, seeking a quieter life. His coach is attacked en route, leading to a final team-up with his student, but Ben survives unscathed and continues his journey.
  • The Western: The comic is set in the old west and the Two-Gun Kid has no superpowers or magical abilities, but some of his opponents have fantastic elements that bring them closer to supervillains than traditional western bad guys.
