A tie in comic to the Netflix live action version of Cowboy Bebop depicting an original tale of the series.

The story sees Spike, Jet and Faye after a man named Melville who said to have stolen a vest that can change one's luck. The chase leads the three deeper into what looks like Red Dragon territory, but as is always the case, things quickly get a lot more complicated.

Released from January to June 2022, with a trade collecting all four issues releasing in November, as Cowboy Bebop: Supernova Swing. It was published by Titan Comics some time after the TV series was cancelled, written by Dan Watters and with art by Lamar Mathurin.

Tropes:

  • Food as Bribe: Spike happens upon the creator of the vest who offers to give it to them if he can bring him back some noodles that are no longer in production.
  • The Ghost: Vicious, he's heard through a phone call in Issue 1 and make a cameo in Issue 3 when explaining how the Red Dragons are involved in things but doesn't make an physical in-story appearance in the comic.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: While on Cyllene, Faye gets into a card game and is revealed to be cheating. She makes to run, but the resident bear no ill will against her for it (due to the planet's atmosphere essentially making them high as a kite) to her chagrin. When she returns to the Bebop, she states her dissatisfaction of being unable to swindle anyone.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The first issue incorporates the lyrics of "Tank" at the beginning into the dialogue.
    • In Issue 2, one of the waiters at the cafe Faye goes to is design like Miles from the "Wild Horses" episode.
    • The planet Cyllene where Melville flees to could be consider one of the satellite boom town from "Bohemian Rhapsody" where most people come to just live an easy life free of trouble.
  • Winds of Destiny, Change!: Essentially, the vest seems to grant it incredible luck, but in reality, it allows you to the probability of things in the Quantum Spectrum and allow you to react accordingly.
